Other Things You Can Do with SongKong
Fix Songs and Rename Files are the main SongKong task, but SongKong includes a number of other tools for organizing and maintaining your music collection.
You do not need to learn these before getting started. This page simply gives you an overview so that you know what is available when you need it.
Status Report
Status Report analyses your music collection without changing any of your music files.
It can show you how complete your metadata is, highlight inconsistencies and create a spreadsheet containing the metadata currently stored in your songs.
This can be useful before or after using Fix Songs.
Delete Duplicates
Delete Duplicates helps find duplicate copies of songs within your music collection.
You can control how SongKong decides that two songs are duplicates and which copy should be kept.
Apply Preview
If the last task you have run was with Preview Only enabled then Apply Preview can be run after reviewing the changes to apply the results of the previous task for real
Undo Fixes
If you run a task that modifies your music and later decide you do not like the results, Undo Fixes can restore previous values.
SongKong keeps a record of changes it has made, allowing changes to be undone for selected folders. This is stored in the database so changes can be undone at a later date even after a reboot.
Manual Edit
Sometimes you may want to make your own changes rather than have SongKong identify the music automatically.
Manual Edit lets you view and edit the metadata and artwork for selected songs yourself.
Auto Edit
Auto Edit is useful when you want to make the same type of change to many songs at once.
For example, you can:
- Change capitalization
- Find and replace text
- Remove unwanted spaces
- Modify several metadata fields in one operation
Scripter
The Scripter task is a more powerful version of Auto Edit it can be used to modify the value of a songs metadata fields by writing Javascript Expression Language.
Meta Grater
Meta Grater removes selected metadata fields from your music files.
This is useful when you specifically want to remove unwanted metadata rather than add or improve it.
Fix Charset Encoding
Fix Charset Encoding can correct text that has been stored using the wrong character encoding.
You would normally only use this when artist, album or song names contain incorrectly displayed characters.
Monitor Folder
Monitor Folder lets SongKong automatically process new music added to a particular folder.
This can be useful once you have settled on the Fix Songs settings you prefer and want new additions to your collection processed automatically.
Match to One Album
Match to One Album is useful when you know a folder contains one album and want SongKong to concentrate on finding the best match for that particular album.
It is particularly useful for albums that were not successfully matched during a normal Fix Songs task.
Bandcamp Match
Bandcamp Match can be used to identify an album from Bandcamp and add information obtained from its Bandcamp release page.
Add Album to MusicBrainz
If an album cannot be found in MusicBrainz then Add Album to MusicBrainz can help you use the metadata already contained in your files to add the release to MusicBrainz.
Import Naim WAV Metadata
Some Naim music servers store metadata for WAV files separately from the audio files.
Import Naim WAV Metadata can read this information and add it to the WAV files so that the metadata can also be used by other music players and servers.
You don’t need to learn everything
Most users will spend the majority of their time using just a few SongKong tasks.
A good starting point is:
- Fix Songs to identify and improve your music
- Rename Files if you want to reorganize your files and folders
- Delete Duplicates for removing duplicate files
- Manual Edit for occasional corrections
- Status Report when you want an overview of your collection
