Jaikoz 11.0 Cranes Released May 20th 2021

We are pleased to announce a major release, Jaikoz 11.0 Cranes

A couple of things to note, this release completely rewrites how user preferences are saved so that instead of being stored as an encrypted xml file (settings.jai) they are now stored as a number of properties files (settings.properties, renamemask.properties, columns.properties). This was a massive change and as a result your existing preferences will not be converted on update, it wasn’t feasible to do this.

So if you have made changes to Preferences and you want to keep them you might want to take some screenshots/notes of your preferences in your current version of Jaikoz before updating.

And this release supports many new fields supported to bring it inline with the latest SongKong release and the Roon compatabilty we added to SongKong. It also modifies the mappings of some existing fields, most notably Perfomer and Involved People, please read the notes below if you think this may affect you.

So because of this we are doing a soft release for a few days, if you check for updates from a previous version of Jaikoz it will not yet say that a new release is available, but it is by downloading in the usual way from the website. This way more experienced/active customers are likely to try out Jaikoz first, and can indicate to me anything I haven’t fully considered, any problems let me know.

Jaikoz 11.0 Preferences Changes

Previously all preferences were stored in settings,jai, this was an encrypted Xml file and it was a bad idea. As a developer had to modify the Xml schema every time I needed to add a new preference which was cumbersome. For customers because it was a large Xml file and it was encrypted, this was the main reason for slow Jaikoz start up times, and if the file became corrupted it would just have to be deleted losing all modifications you had made to preferences. Jaikoz 11.0 Rename Files from Metadata Changes

There are substantial changes to renaming files from metadata in this release, but if you also have SongKong then you’ll see we have basically introduced the SongKong way of file renaming to Jaikoz. Jaikoz 11.0 Modified Field Mappings

There have been some necessary modifications to how fields are mapped, this means that although the field may have the same name in Jaikoz it may actually now map to a different field in the audio files, and the modification may be for all audio formats or just some. I don’t like making such changes but sometimes it is necessary so that Jaikoz works best with music players and other software.
