Fix Your Music Collection
Once you have successfully processed a few albums and are happy with the results, you are ready to use Fix Songs on a larger part of your music collection.
You can select:
- A folder containing several albums
- A folder for a particular artist
- A large section of your music collection
- Your complete music collection
SongKong will also process folders inside the folder you select.
Start with the Default profile
If the results from your test albums were good, you can continue using the Default profile.
There is no need to change lots of options before processing a larger collection.
If there are particular types of metadata that you do not want SongKong to change, you can adjust the Fix Songs options first.
Preview Only or make changes?
For a large collection you can still use Preview Only if you want to see the results before modifying your files, and then use Apply Preview task to apply the changes for real.
Alternatively, once you are comfortable with the way SongKong works, you can disable Preview Only and let SongKong update your music directly. SongKong creates a report for every task, so you can review what happened afterwards at a later date and the Undo Changes task can be used to selectively any changes you do not like.
Processing a large collection
Select the folder containing the music you want to process, select Fix Songs , and then select Start .
Processing a large collection can take some time because SongKong has to:
- Read your existing metadata
- Group songs into albums
- Identify your music
- Retrieve metadata and artwork
- Save any changes
- Create the final report
You can leave SongKong to work while it processes your collection.
You do not have to fix everything at once
If you have a very large music collection, you may prefer to process it in sections.
For example, you could process:
- One artist at a time
- A few hundred albums at a time
- Recently added music first
There is no requirement to process your complete collection in one task.
What if some songs are not matched?
It is normal for some songs or albums not to be identified.
This can happen because:
- The album is not available in the online databases
- Your version of the album differs from the available releases
- Existing metadata is too incomplete or incorrect
- SongKong cannot make a match with sufficient confidence
SongKong prefers not to make a match rather than make an unreliable one.
You can investigate unmatched music later using the more detailed Fix Songs options and other SongKong tools.
Running Fix Songs again
You can safely run Fix Songs on music that SongKong has already processed.
You might do this because:
- New metadata has become available
- You have changed your Fix Songs options
- Some albums were not matched previously
- You want to improve artwork or other metadata
SongKong is designed to recognise music it has already processed and does not simply start from scratch each time.
Review the results
When processing has finished, SongKong opens the Fix Songs Report .
Start with the Summary and then check a selection of albums or folders.
You do not normally need to inspect every song individually.
If the results look good, your music collection has now been identified and improved by SongKong.
