SongKong Select Folder Hangs

I recently purchased Song Kong (11/22/25) and used it for 24 hrs with no issues. On 11/23, it started rewriting song titles and repeated the first song it found and repeated it for each track in the album.

I deleted the installation and reinstalled. I entered my activation keys along with email. Now, I can’t get it to select the folder I want to fix. I can open the toolbar and each icon, but when I select the icon with file location, the application just hangs up. Have to say I’m not very happy at the moment. I spent 5 hours messing with it yesterday. Reboot computer and all the other stuff you would normally do.

It worked fine the day I installed it. Now, I can’t get it to open a file, Please help…

Hi, looking at your logs seeing this error

24/11/2025 07.25.33:CST:UncaughtExceptionHandler:uncaughtException:SEVERE: An unexpected error has occurred Error accessing file:/Users/MG/Library/Preferences/SongKong/songkong_fixsongs5.properties (No such file or directory)

I am guessing you created a new profile (RoonSafeFix) then you installed SongKong and then reinstalled SongKong but somewhere along the line you did something to the configuration files, moving or deleting them ?

The problem is your general.properties file has the current FixSongsProfile set to songkong_fixsongs5.properties (which was presumably RoonSafeFix) but that file no longer exists

currentFixSongsProfile=songkong_fixsongs5.properties

Since you are using macOS the easiest fix is probably to:

  • Ensure SongKong not running
  • Open Finder
  • Select Go menu
  • Hold down Option button, Library will appear in the list
  • Select Library
  • Select Preferences
  • Select SongKong
  • Delete general.properties
  • Restart SongKong, it should copy a over a new gneral.properties from installation
  • Recreate your RoonSafeFix profile as required

Regarding repetition of first song, I can see the last 5 FixSongsReports (135-139)

FixSongsReport135 and 136 are preview and real run against Fox Confessor Brings The Flood album and results seem fine.

FixSongsReport137 is run against Cash Box Kings album and i can see the album was already matched (by Picard) but for some reason has rematched every song to the first track, I can’t understand why. Then it seems the same thing happens in FixSongsReport138 against Johnny Cash Folsom Blues album, I have to admit I’m a bit stumped at the moment.

Could you please try the following:

Rerun Fix Songs against against * Cash Box Kings* album but set For Songs Already matched to Rematch

If that works then run again but with For Songs Already matched set back to Update

Then rerun Create Support Files

Okay Issue with Fix Songs Update if existing tracks already matched to MusicBrainz but missing MB Track Id field.

In such cases all tracks get updated as if they are track 1!

This is a serious issue and I will aim to release a fix for this by tommorrow. However usually if matched to MusicBrainz with SongKong or Picard all tracks will have a MB Track Id field and so this wil not usually be an issue, I dont know what situation caused MB Track Id to be missing it may be something to do with how Picard works.

Paul

It was working fine when I installed it Saturday. I used it for several hours without issue. Then on Sunday I was updating tags and I was doing folders at a time instead of albums at a time and I was pretty confident it was working so I did not bother to look at the checks before I committed to them. I went to my Home Theater setup and wanted to see how it all looked. I selected a couple albums I recently tweaked and I noticed the issue. I went back to look at some more files and I noticed the song repeating issue in several of the albums I ran Song Kong on.

Hi, it is related to data it will continue to work fine for most albums but not those that have already been matched to Musicbrainz (by Picard?) but with the MB Track Id field missing. So for your data Fox Confessor Brings The Flood has the field and hence there was no problem, but Cash Box Kings and Folsom Prison Blues did not have that field and hence there was a problem.

Anyway I have now fixed the problem and will release 11.9.1 by tommorrow for all platforms.

I reran as per your instructions. The support files should be there…Thanks for your help, I very much appreciate it !!!

I do have another ? Is there a way to format to output of the excel spreadsheet dump so you can make it add the album name and date into the title of the file. It would make reading them a lot easier.

Hi, yes that rerun with option set to Rematch fixed the album.

Okay I have now released fixed version but it won’t automatically fix albums that were broken so this is what I suggest you do.

  • Install new version
  • Run Status Report (Not Fix Songs Report) over your music
  • Check the MusicBrainz Inconsistencies tab
  • And underneath check the One Song Matched tab

This will show albums where only one song has been matched, this is probably going to be all the albums affected by the bug

  • Then for each album listed run Fix Songs with option set to Rematch to fix the album.
  • Then set option back to Update Metadata Only and should then be okay going forward.

But the spreadsheet could be for multiple albums.

I dont usually use the spreadsheet since everything can be seen in the html report, have you checked out the Browse section of the report?

Ok, I ran the report and I’m in need of clarification please. Here’s a partial screen shot of Can The singles.
What do the 3 rows in white signify? The files all play fine but I’m not sure I understand what the tab is telling me.

Hi, this is viewing things from the MusicBrainz database perspective it is saying that you have some songs matched to this album but the album is not completely matched, this means either you dont actualy have the complete album or that the songs have been matched to the wrong album. This section of the report works by looking at the MusicBrainz Ids tags in yor file so can identify incorrect matching done by other MusicBrainz enabled applications like Picard.

The lines in white show the songs that you have matched, i.e track 9 is matched by the file *1_9_Can_Mushroom_*5 and track 10 is matched by file 1_10_Can_Moonshake_5. More significant are the lines in red because these are tracks on the album that you dont have any matching files for.

This particular release is not relevant to the bug fix, because you only needed to look at releases under the One Song Matched tab, because we were looking for albums where all tracks had been set to track 1. But that is not the case here because there are more than one track and it is not track 1.

If you would like to resend your support files I can give you more help with this and post full example from your report.

Thanks, I never saw that tab. I looked into it and did find something messed up. Not sure how it happened but here’s a screen shot. The file names somehow got tweaked…

The other issue is that the album is a digital download from Qobuz. Not sure if that creates match issues. My guess is yes…

If the One song Matched tab didnt show and you ran against your music that would suggest tthat there were no other albums hit by the bug.

For this album the value of the Album field is the same for all songs but because SongKong only showed those three being matched to a particular MusicBrainz release Im guessing the other songs have not been matched to MusicBrainz. I would suggest using the Match to One Album task on the folder to see if a match can be made for all songs.

Sorry for being a pest.
I want to ensure I understand how SK works before I re-tag my collection. I examined another folder and need some clarification please;

I have 3 screen shots for Bryan Adams. This one ID’s a song (track 5) missing from being ID’d.
Bryan Adams So Far So Good Song Kong

and that’s consistent with the file into from Metadatics for same album:
Bryan Adams So Far So Good Metadatics

My NAS show the entire CD intact.

My questions are:
How do I prevent data loss on my NAS for this album? I want to keep the contents intact if SK does not find a match for track 5. What setting do I need to use to keep anything happening to the source file?

I am overly cautious because it took several months to initially tag my collection and I don’t want to delete any track(s) because Music Brainz or Discogs does not find a match. I have looked at several reports and have seen missing tracks in the report. I have made changes to a file, went to look at it on my NAS and rescan MinimServer and then see that the file is missing or deleted. I hope I explained it in enough detail.

Hi, so SongKong is not going to delete anything, it is merely telling you for a Musicbrainz release one track (track 5) has not been matched. You say your nas server shows you do actually have file 5, but metadatics doesnt see it either. You are using both from a Mac so if you go to Finder on your Mac does that show file 5 or not?

No,
I have the drive mapped to the folder on my desktop. File 5 is missing. See attached.
When I go to play the file from my player via MinimServer, the file is there and plays fine.

My NAS is the source for both Roon and MinimServer.
When I goto the control point for Roon file 5 is missing. File 5 plays from my Oppo bluRay player that points to MinimServer. I also forced a rescan in Roon.

okay so im not sure what the question is, if the file is not visible to the computer running SongKong then SongKong cannot do anything with it.

Why does the file not show up in finder or Roon?

It plays via MinimServer and I can see it in my NAS. I looked at the log file from initial rip and its in the log. I would expect to see the file in finder, wouldn’t you? File 5 is also the one showing up in the report as not finding a match?

Sorry I dont know, are you sure when you play with MinimServer you are actually playing that file, your Media Server screenshot shows browsing by metadata it is not actually browsing by filename so it could be that track 5 is in a different location to where you think it is.

A subtle but important point is that the report is not saying File 5 is not finding a match, it is saying for the MusicBrainz release we have no match for Track 5.

I actually played the file in question via MinimServer. I just find it odd that it shows up in MinimServer and not Roon. My NAS is the source for both applications. I will not make a federal case out of it just trying to understand whats going on.

I know but when you say you played it via MinimServer it seems you played it by navigating via Album Artist tag and then Album tag. So what im saying is maybe the file exists but is not in the same folder as the other files which is why it doesnt play in Roon, can you check the file is actually in the same folder as the other files and post screenshot to demonstrate one way or the other.
