"Allowed Genres" List Doesn't Work

Extremely frustrating as sorting my music collection into genre folders for DJing was the main reason I bought this. The application refuses to function as expected. I have a folder marked “Anime Soundtrack” that I wanted to move to “Anime”. So I added the following line to the file:

Anime Soundtrack;Anime;

I ran a custom “Fix Songs” profile and nothing. The genres remain unchanged. I changed several settings and tweaks but after a long troubleshooting session I give up. I’m pretty sure something is broken here because it shouldn’t be this hard.

I followed the instructions at: https://community.jthink.net/t/tutorial-preferences-genres/12417

Perhaps there’s been a regression or something? Is this feature no longer supported?

Hi, Fix Songs matches your music to MusicBrainz and Discogs, if an album is matched to Discogs then we can update the genre from the Discogs Genre depending on settings, the genre has to be in the Allowed Genre list and then it is added or converted to different Genre if using the Genre1;Genre2 format that you have.

But the key thing is the genre is only going to be set to Anime if all the following are true

  • Matched To Discogs
  • Basic:Update Genres enabled
  • Discogs Genre is Anime Soundtrack
  • Genres:Genre is set to Always Replace Values
  • Anime Soundtrack;Anime; is in Allowed Genres list

It sounds like all you actually want to do is to change the Genre for a set of files, if that is the case the easiest way to do this is as follows:

  • Select Folder
  • Select AutoEdit task
  • On Basic tab check Enable Find and Replace
  • Fill in the Find and Replace tab as in the screenshot below

  • Select Start

and that should resolve the issue
