Windows 11 blocking install of SongKong 12.0 Technique

Whenever I try to install the latest Win64 bit version of SongKong (12.0 Technique) , I get the error “Smart App Control has blocked this app (main.msi) because we can’t confirm who published it and its not an app we’re familiar with”

Any suggestions?

Are you downloading it from this site because the Wndows installer is an .exe file not an .msi so Im suprised to see this message?

But it maybe the correct message and certainly even though SongKong is digitally signed for Windows sometimes Windows SmartScreen takes a while to accept it because even though digiitally signed it seems to expects a certain number of downloads before fully accepting an application.

What you can do is right click on downloader, select Properties , then switch to Digital Signatures to show that is has been signed to give confidence there is no issue with it.

Then an should be able to install as follows:

  • Double click on installer
  • When it gives warning select More Info
  • And then Run Anyway

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it came from the Jthink site and is an .exe file even though it reports as an .msi. I followed your instructions and can see that it is signed, but when running the app, it first shows a “preparing to run” dialogue with no warning or option to “Run Anyway” before generating the error. I tried running it as admin, but that made no difference.

Okay what happens when you select Learn More

It takes you to the following site:

Smart App Control Has Blocked Part of This App - Microsoft Support

Hmm it sounds like it is saying it can see my installer is fine but a file the installer is trying to use to do install is not fine, Im wondering if there is another file called main.msi that is getting picked up on path and it is trying to use that is not the one within the installer.

Can you do a search for main.msi on your computer?

Done some more digging, it seems that SmartScreen on Windows 11 is stricter than on Windows 10 (I am still using Windows 10) and maybe I need to also sign the main.msi file which is auto- created as part of creating the installer not just the installer .exe.

I do have access to a Windows 11 computer so will look into this tomorrow.

Just confirming there is no ‘main.msi’ on my system drive (searching the others would take too long as its over 30TB).

thanks that was a guess on my part but i have since found out more about the issue, and it seems is a problem with Windows 11 and Java based exe installers.

Hi Toyin, could you try this installer and see if it works for you and let me know please.

Success, it worked first time. Thanks, Paul.

Okay great, so on the Download page the SongKong for Windows download link now points to SongKong-windows64.msi instead of SongKong-windows64.exe. The installer is virtually identical the only difference is now we sign the .msi file and it runs whereas before we signed the .exe file and it would extract an msi file that was not signed and then fail on Windows 11 if using Smart App Control.
