SongKong checks the metadata in our files reaches a certain standard before it seeds the album with the information from our music files, but we still need to check the metadata and possibly make some modifications before we finally submit the new release to MusicBrainz.
This is a checklist of the things most likely to need further consideration
Non Classical Album
Release Information tab
- Artists are identified and correct
- Label is identified and correct
- Status, Script and Language may be missing but should be easy to add if familair with album
Release Duplicates tab
- Potential duplicates should be checked if any
Tracklist tab
- Format may be missing and should be added or the I Dont know checkbox checked
- Title case should be checked, and Guess case used if necessary, note there is Guess Case for English, French and Turkish
- Artist should be checked if different to Release Artist.
Recordings tab
- If any tracks listed to existing recodings check they are correct
- If tracks not linked to existing recordings it may be worth checking to see if existing recordings do exist
After the release has been submitted and created we can optionally add performer relationships to any new recordings. This is most easily done by selecting Edit Release and the using the Edit Relationships tab
Classical Album
Release Information tab
- The Title may need modification to fit in with the Classical Style Guidelines because the rules for the release title vary depending on what type of title it is and how many composers are involved in the works on the release.
- Artists are identified and correct and follow the CSG
- Label is identified and correct
- Status, Script and Language may be missing but should be easy to add if familiar with album
Release Duplicates tab
- Potential duplicates should be checked if any
Tracklist tab
-
Format may be missing and should be added or the I Dont know checkbox checked
-
If title is a movement of a work then the title should also include the work title if it doesnt already, more details in the CSG.
-
Title case should be checked, and Guess case used if necessary, note there is Guess Case for English, French and Turkish. The French guess case can be used for some other european languages such as Italian which is vey useful when dealing with Italian Operas for example.
-
If not already set the Artist should be set the Composer of the track
Recordings tab
- If any tracks listed to existing recordings check they are correct
- If tracks not linked to existing recordings it may be worth checking to see if existing recordings do exist
After the release has been submitted and created there are three optional tasks that are recommended for Classical releases:
For each track where a new recording was created add the main performers as artist for linked recording
These are most easily done by selecting Edit Release and the using the Edit Relationships tab, for each track where a new recording was created:
- Create relationship between recording and work if the work already exists for the recording. If not add the work and then link to the recording
- Add composer and performer relationships to any new recordings
