SongKong reporting empty folders that in fact have valid content

SongKong reports: No Basic Metadata found for any songs in 587 folders

When looking at the folder names don’t see a readily identifiable pattern that would trigger it. but can confirm every one of those folders contain FLAC files, album covers etc. and they all test fine. Here’s a sample:

I dont know, are you able to run Create Support Files and then I should be able to work it out.

But the first question is why it is reporting 0 songs, if you select Browse/Browse By Folder, navigate to one of these folders and double click on it does it list any files within it ?

Yup, they all have content and their ownership and file permissions mean that SongKong should have no issues accessing them:

Support files being created. It’s going to be a very, very large large dataset… doing the analysis (on local drives hooked up to a AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750GE and 64GB RAM) took 40:22:58. There a way to cut it back or you want me to let it roll?

I mean within the SongKong report in the Browse section does it show the files in these folders, im unclear if it processed them but just a problem in the summary inconisistencies section, or it didn’t process them.

Anyway I will just wait for the support files, there is not a way to send part of report so just let it roll, Ive been sent large support files before.

Not showing the files, but then in other tabs it shows having found metadata for them (despite it already existing in the files).

I wonder whether there’s a common theme among these files as having been encoded with a specific version of the FLAC encoder. In any event, I’m letting it roll with regards to the support files.

Okay the report did not complete correctly, i think that is why we are getting the This folder contains 0 songs and has no basic metadata for any of the songs errors, they are relying on something else missing from the report. But Ill need to see the logs in support files to see why the report failed. (i’ll also look at the other errors)

One idea, the report are quite large, have you ran out of disk space?

Hmmm, not seen that before

Okay I think to do for now is just send me the logs manually, on linux these should be a Logs folder within $HOME/.songkong folder.

This may also tell me why the support file upload failed.

Hi, that worked. But anyway I just noticed your support file did upload to my server okay, and I have downloaded it okay and in the process of unzipping. So that Unable to upload support files message was misleading, possibly an local issue between browser and songkong itself.

Anyway, I wil have a proper look at this after lunch.

Thanks, I’ll venture a guess at least part of the issue for some of the folders is some folder and file names contain characters SongKong does not expect to see and probably deliberately filters out in deference to NTFS naming restrictions.

Out of curiosity, to complete the analysis once we’ve gotten to the bottom of the issues, does that entail running the entire analysis shooting match again?

Hi, so the report failed whilst generating the Browse/Browse By Album section, if you go to it in the report it is empty, and message shows we got stuck in recursive loop, cant see exaclty the starting point of the problem but narrowed it somewhat so hopefully can work out the error

But Im not confident that this is the cause of the song details section for certain folders showing zero songs since these files are generated before the Browse By Album Navigation and do not rely on those files, so I need to look into this as well, you may be right about the filenames and NTFS

But the rest of the report has been generated fine, so there is plenty to look at, and I dont know how many files were matched to MusicBrainz, but I see from the results SongKong has got it to upto 85%

Whilst waiting for a fix you might want to run a Status Report, this will run considerably quicker than Fix Songs and then you can see how many songs were already matched before using SongKong for a clearer comparison. It would also be useful to know if the reports completes okay or fails with same issue.

Unfortunately so, but I did quick calc and on your system SongKong was fixing songs at a rate of 19,000 songs per hour which i think is pretty good.

When users run SongKong over large collections it can be very useful for finding obscure errors that do not happen with smaller colections and my testing and I had a quick look at some of the other errors that occurred. If you could possibly email support@Jthink.net the folowing folders for testing purposes I can also resolve some of the other errors.

Just looking at your screenshot at the startof this post, and I just noticed all the songs in the folder seem to be wrapped in double quotes, so that looks like a potential problem. Perhaps you could make a copy and rename remving the double quotes and then run just against that folder to and new version to see if onre works and one does not.

if you look carefully there’s only a double quote where there’s an apostrophe in a filename. Standard Ext4 behaviour.
