Songkong 9.4 hangs (introduced in this version)

I can quite put my finger on it, but it happens when tracks from more the one album, or a large number of tracks are not contained in specific folders (other than root).

Support files uploaded.

Thanks

Thx, I’m away from office until Wednesday so cannot check support files until then.

Another stall. Support files uploaded.

Hi, I have checked both set of support files.

Okay it isn’t actually stalling, but a particular search by acoustids and at least number of tracks on release is failing with a timeout. When this happens we retry upto ten times assuming it is a temporary server overload issue, so SongKong was retrying when you cancelled.

When using SongKong in the more usual manner over many albums if a temporary timeout does occur it is not noticeable because multiple albums being processed at same time, and only some will be encountering this issue because there are are multiple ways of matching and other tasks such as loading and saving songs that do not require access to server.

Now, I did retry the specific query that was timing out and it worked okay. So that indicated a server issue, but server logs dont indicate any particular issues, and both failures were with same type of query so I am not sure if there is a particular issue with performance of this query.

So I am considering some more, but in the meantime in each case you cancelled after waiting only a few minutes, if you just leave it to run next time I think it will eventually complete successfully.

We did make a change in last release for noOfTracks, we try to only return albums that have at least as many tracks as required to match all the songs on the album, but we dont want to limit the max number of tracks an album can have because a customer may not have the complete album.

However the database index lib we use (Lucene) doesn’t let you choose just a minimum you can only set a range. Previously the max number of tracks was set to 1000 but this was preventing a match to the Mozart 200 CD album test I was working on so we increased it to 10,000, I wonder if this has had a negative effect on performance.

I’ve been tracking the Mozart post on the Roon forum with interest and have suspected that it may have something to do with those changes (hence the title says “introduced in this version”).

I’ve also had new instances under 9.4 where I’ve had to run SK twice to get the desired results (I think on at least 2 occasions the results are incomplete and the folder name has (“blank”) for the year. Running again fixes it.

Also there’s still a minor bug previous flagged up, where the tracks without a folder are dropped into the root folder. A new folder is created with the album name but a copy of the folder.jpg gets left in the root folder.

Thanks for all your hard work!

So, you don’t actually know then, Im going to check how this wider range affects things with Lucene community.

You would need to give me more evidence so I can follow this, since Fix Songs doesn’t create any folders so I guess you mean a combination of Fix Songs and Rename Songs.

Is the folder empty of files except this image and subfolders ?

If so, there was an issue that the root folder was getting deleted when rename files which users didnt want, maybe sideeffect of me fixing that was that the image folder no longer gets deleted.

The folder is created as expected (tracks + folder.jpg), but the jpg is duplicated in the working folder. I can replicate this every time.

Done alot of testing on this but not come to firm conclusion

Certainly if Mozart 200CD has to be returned that is lot of data to return, its also true that searches with a track range are slower than without, but are needed to prevent return releases that cant possibly be valid match

In your case were matching a David Bowie album, and although there were some largish potential releases there were none had more than 101 tracks so I wouldn’t think the change from 1000 to 10000 would make any difference, and your query is working for me, these are the releases returned:

Im going to try cloning server and swapping to that to see if there is issue with server

Has it happened since ?

@Galaxian I have uploaded a new version of SongKong 9.4 for Windows with a few adjustments to matching that I think should avoid the issue you were seeing, be good if you could give it a go:
-Uninstall SongKong (settings will not be lost)
-Redownload and install SongKong 9.4 for Windows
-In Help About menu Build Date should now say 22/Aug/2023

Thanks. Installed - I’ll report any issues
