Problem with VM Musicbrainz server

I have a large number of songs to tag/repair and wanted to use a local Musicbrainz server to speed up the process.

Environment info:

iMac 27-inch, Late 2009
OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB

VM server
4 GB
2 cores

IP of host: 192.168.1.100 (static)
IP of VM server 192.168.1.108 (DHCP)

Song Kong: 1.13.0
Jaikoz 6.0.5
java version “1.6.0_65”
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

Musicbrainz VM server 2013-10-14
VirtualBox 4.3.2 r90405

Above OS and applications all current as of 2013-11-27.

Both Song Kong and Jaikoz work fine when using the MusicBrainz server at www.musicbrainz.org

I downloaded the VM Musicbrainz server (running on the same computer as the apps) and installed it using the instructions posted here and here. I reindexed the database, forced a replication and turned on automatic replication.

I pointed a browser to the VM server (192.168.1.108:5000) and got to the local Musicbrainz search page without issue. I was able to search and pull up data.

I then pointed Song Kong and Jaikoz to the VM server (http://192.168.1.108:5000) and for both apps I get a 503, Service unavailable error.

I don’t have any firewalls anywhere on my network and assume that the VM doesn’t have one since I can reach it via a browser.

What could I be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Mike

Does the webservice search actually work from the browser

i.e

http://192.168.1.108:5000/ws/2/artist/?query=fred

The VirtualBox version failed to build indexes for me on my PC, I would recommend using the VMware version, but if you are on Mac you’ll have to use VMWare Fusions.

In the meantime I’ll have a go using VirtualBox on my Mac.

Paul,

Yes, the MB server search works from a browser (it’s running on the Mac that’s also hosting the MB VM.

I’ve not had any problems with VirtualBox on the Mac and the indexes rebuilt without a problem, other than running for 24+ hours.

Strange…

I’ve bounced everything since my last post and Jaikoz seems to be working, but no luck with Song Kong. I’m not getting the 503 error anymore, but it’s still not matching any songs on the local MB server.

Mike

In SongKong are you setting both MusicBrainz Server and MusicBrainz Search Server , and setting them both to the same value ?

Yes…

Can you email me your support files then ?

Paul,

Sorry, bit of a noob, here do I find the support files?

Thanks,

Mike

I am running SongKong Pro. Just re-installed my Music Brainz server, and cannot seem to find the page in SongKong where this configuration information (new IP address) is updated…

This MusicBrainz server VM was an option when we used the MusicBrainz server directly because the MusicBrainz server was rather slow.

However since we moved to our own server that provides MusicBrainz and Discogs databases optimized for song matching the MusicBrainz VM is no longer required or relevant and has been removed, this has been the case for the last 18 months.

Oh… Guess I should have paid more attention to the release notes and your newsletters
