match album to total tracks

I noticed that sometimes jaikoz will match an album, when there are multiple releases in musicbrainz, to one that has more tracks then the ones that actually matches the album I have. I currently have jaikoz set to use US as the preferred country and cd and vinyl as the preferred mediums and the earliest release if possible.

Is it possible to have jaikoz try to match on multiple releases to a release that has the same number of tracks before it tries to add these other qualifiers in place, and only add them as a secondary qualifier, if there are multiple releases available that have the same amount of tracks?

Also I noticed on some releases that different countries may have different track orders, or sometimes the last song or two may be different. Is there any way for jaikoz to figure out which is the correct release based on the actual music? Not just the first song, as often the first song is the same.

Jaikoz allows matches to albums to allow for the fact that you might not actually have the whole album, but albums withe same number of tracks as what you are trying to match will get a boosted score. However if this release with additional tracks has better matches on things like year or media type, or the tracks themselves then it can get a greater score.

The theory is that the best match is the one that matches best overall rather than the way you suggested, but it doesnt always work as you’d like. When finding the best release we actually consider every combination of your song/release song as a big matrix to find which combination gives the best match, certainly don’t just consider the first match.

Im afraid the the only way I can say why a particular set of songs didnt match a particular release is if you email me the songs for testing

Makes sense. Wouldn’t want it to affect the actual detecting of songs on a large scale. It is fun to load a bunch of unknown and poorly tagged files and let jaikoz do its magic and see what it identifies them as. I have done this a few times when coming across old cds I had burned of misc mp3 from many years back.

It would be nice if there was an option that can be turned off or on in preferences to give it a bit more weight. Similar to how we already have the option to match to preferred release country, media type, and earliest release. This would come in really hand for those that have good rips that are at least somewhat tagged and just want to update their track info with musicbrainz and discogs.
