Jaikoz freezing when saving albums and multidisc albums

On the Start menu

JaikozDebug

Now I know. Thank you. Support files are on the way shortly.

Oh dear you have done exactly the same mistake again. You keep running Jaikoz and doing the save test, then you close Jaikoz and start JaikozDebug and then run Create Support Files. But if you are not running JaikozDebug when you do save files then the debug information is obviously not going to be recorded.

To reiterate again

  1. Start JaikozDebug
  2. Run Force Save
  3. If it hangs kill it off and restart JaikozDebug
  4. Run Create Support Files and send them to me.

Repeated a few times and possibly too many as it corrupted one track and it wouldn’t load. This happened earlier on this journey when I began with another larger box set. I had to start over with that one and I have to do the same with this one.

If this doesn’t give you what you want, I am not sure where to look. At some point if almost everything is matched, there really isn’t anything to freeze at that point.

Check your email, please.

Hi, I received logs yesterday and debugging was there and save hadn’t completed, thankyou. Unfortuanately although the extra debugging was there I could not see the problem.

Now, it seemed you had a reproducible case, run Autocorrect on a a particular box set and then run Force Save and it would freeze. Is it still reproducible or are you saying that this particular boxset no longer fails ?

I need to simply know if the case Is it still reproducible or not, do you have a consistent way of causing the freeze or not ?

If the problem can be reproduced then we have a way of knowing if we have resolved the problem, also it may be possible for me to reproduce the problem with your files. But if the error happens randomly then it is much harder to find a solution to the problem.

My suspicion is still that the problem is the virus checker, it would be very helpful if you could totally disable the virus checker for a short period to see if that resolves the issue.

Disabled Antivirus (Bitdefender, the free version). I did this after updating the software, so I am using the current version you just updated. It is still freezing with Force Save Unfortunately. Cleaning out the cache with the Antivirus disabled, Jaikoz still freezes.

What do we do next? Organizing files is at a standstill at the moment as a result of this. Attempting to do this again in Debug Mode and after that, I’ll send the support files and hopefully they reveal something, anything. Keep in mind that I am only doing this in Musicbrainz and only match to specific album because chaos seemed to ensue when I didn’t do that what seems so long ago.

Same reaction with Debug Mode and Force Save. Antivirus is still off.

Support Files on the way. Keep me updated as you will, kind sir.

Okay, thanks

So I did add a little extra debugging into 11.0.6 , but looking at your log files it hasn’t yielded any results.

So what I can see is you do Match Songs to MusicBrainz Release, Correct Sub Folders, Correct Filenames and Force Save.

Jul 11, 2021 10:45:35 PM: INFO: Started matching 94 songs to a single MusicBrainz release
Jul 11, 2021 10:47:58 PM: INFO: Started correct sub folders from metadata on 94 songs
Jul 11, 2021 10:48:02 PM: INFO: Started correct filename from metadata on 94 songs
Jul 11, 2021 10:48:11 PM: INFO: Started to force save changes to all songs

So I am thinking the issue at save time occurs due to the fact that files have to be renamed rather than because Matched to MusicBrainz was run . When you Correct SubFolders and Correct Filenames it modifies the subfolder and filename fields within Jaikoz, then when you do Force Save the file is renamed to the new name.

So in earlier message you said it wasnt freezing consistently but it does seem to be after all which is a good thing in order to work out the problem. So if you reload the files into Jaikoz, run Match Songs to Specified MusicBrainz Release but do not run Correct SubFolders or Correct Filename and go straight to Force Save does it still freeze or work ?

I did exactly what you suggested, but for good measure, just in case, I also did it again with JaikozDebug.

I did not Correct Subfolders or Correct Filenames in either mode and went straight to Force Save. It is still freezing consistently in both.

To clarify, since it did freeze equally as well when I turned off the Bitdefender Antivirus, I did turn it back on after my attempts last night. It was on when I just made these two attempts. Did you need the Support Files sent?

Yes please, so just I can double check this.

Sent. If I need to do anything else, I’ll have to wait until tonight (I’m on EST, unless it’s a question involving something else other than doing it again until I have access at home) as I am terrible at getting ready for work.

Thanks again.

Hmm , okay thanks.

So if I have this right it freezes if you run Match To MusicBrainz first and then do Force Save, but it is okay if you have Force Save on its own, and we have removed File renaming and Virus checker as possible culprits.

Only thing I can think of at the moment is does Match to MusicBrainz add new artwork ?

No rush but if you could do the following. Disable add artwork by settings MusicBrainz:Format:Artwork to Never Alter and RemoteCorrect:Discogs:Artwork to Never Alter

Then

  • Reload Files
  • Run Match To Specified MusicBrainz Release
  • Force Save

Does it still freeze ?

Will through on the art preferences tonight. Your explanation seems to summarize what we have done so far.

Just to clarify, however, the art is not present at that particular musicbrainz entry. Will adjust the preferences tonight, but will that matter? To be clear, I generally go find the art and add it. I won’t be even adding it this time, correct, just to check this issue?

Okay, make sure the artwork column is displayed in main edit window, do the Match to MuscBrainz Release task, is the artwork column modified ?

If so make the changes I specified, if nothing changed well then yes its not going to make any difference and there is no point doing it.

So if that is not the case two suggestions I have are:

  1. Do you have another computer you can try it on ?
  2. You can download Jaikoz 10 for Windows from http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/jsp/manualdownload-10_1_2/jaikoz-windows64.exe?val=168 - but if you do this because you are downgrading you need to properly uninstall Jaikoz 11 first.

Changes have been made to preferences and preferences have been saved. Ran Match to Specified Release. Force Save has been run. It still freezes.

The artwork column is ALWAYS displayed in main edit window. In what way is the art window supposed to look modified? It doesn’t seem to appear any different than before, but I am not sure what I am supposed to be looking for. I didn’t add the art after the fact. It did seem to go further in the save process this time than last time but I don’t know if that is coincidental.

Support files on the way asap.

Not yet. I plan on purchasing another laptop for an additional purpose, a used one for cheap, but I don’t have it yet.

Just in case, how do I properly uninstall this version first? Are there additional things I need to delete or is this just the windows Uninstall?

It was to prevent Match to MusicBrainz adding artwork, if the files already have the artwork then doesn’t make any difference. I am surprised that if MusicBrainz is not adding artwork just simple text data how that would make any issue when saving.

Okay I think we should go back to Jaikoz 10 and see if the problem continues.

Do standard uninstall should be all that is required.

Will do. Thank you for all of your help.

The thing with this particular multi disc album, though, was that musicbrainz has no artwork. It’s rare, but it does happen. In this case, I was adding it after the match. This time I didn’t.
