Getting the wrong match from MusicBrainz

I have a recent compilation CD from the BBC Magazine Vol 33 No. 12 from 7/8/2025 entitled 'the Art of Itzhak Perlman - Works by Mozart, Debussy and others" and I thought it would be easy to populate with metadata using SongKong because I found that someone had already uploaded it to MusicBrainz on 20/8/2025. It has 14 tracks and the MusicBrainz url is:https://musicbrainz.org/release/20aeb54b-da78-4611-ab48-3e550a822433 However, when I run it through SongKong the match of tracks is to a much older and larger boxset of Itzhak Perlman recordings by Warner Classics (313 tracks) and most of the tracks are wrongly tagged. Is there any way to force SongKong to match to the correct release?

Yes you use the Match to One Release task and enter the MusicBrainz Id, SongKong will get it directly from MusicBrainz if it cannot find in on Albunack. Albunack is our cached copy of MusicBrainz and Discogs optimized for us to find matches and retrieve the information but it doesnt have the latest releases so in these situations need to use Match to One Release task rather than the Fix Songs task.

Paul,

Thx, I used the Match to One Album task and entered the MusicBrainz url and it matched. If I don’t specify Match to One Album it finds a match to a boxset from 2015 of the Complete Warner Recordings of Mr Perlman. Do you think when Albunack has updated to include the new BBC CD that the standard Fix Songs would match to the new release or would I have to set the preference from Earliest Release to Latest Release first?

I expect Fix Songs to match the BBC songs CD rather than the boxset because it is matching all discs of release rather than just one disc of release so overall I think this would give a higher score.

But under normal circumstances you dont need to worry about this because Fix Songs only tries to find matches for unmatched songs, if already matched with ids then it will just update metadata for the existing match if different, i.e metadata has been modified/added on MusicBrainz since the previous match.

So re-running Fix Songs against this album would not do anything unless For songs already matched is set to Rematch - the default option is Update Metadata only
