I realize that Windows 8 is not a supported operating system - but I cant find a way for it to install in the default folder, maybe a permission issue regarding writing to it?
64bit SongKong attempts (and fails) to install in 32 bit location on Windows 8
Hmm, I wasn’t expecting a issue with Windows 8 but I haven’t tried it on Windows 8 yet, weird though because you can install into default folder on Windows 7 okay.
Ive raised an issue to look at this http://jthink.net:8081/browse/SONGKONG-131. In the meantime have tried both the 32bt and 64bit installtions I wouldnt be suprised if one worked even if the other does not, alternatively can you install somewhere else, I don’t forsee any other Windows 8 problems with SongKong
Ok - thanks for the feedback. When installing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Jthink\SongKong it yields this message: “This directory can not be written! Please choose another directory!” Whoever designed the UI feedback here certainly likes the use of exclamation marks. Either way, this goes for the 64 bit version, I have yet to try the 32 bit version. When I install to another harddrive (D:) and create a folder through, it prompts me saying the folder already exists (I manually created the SongKong folder). However, it let me install the software just fine. It also seems to work, and I by accident chose Norwegian as language (my native tongue) and if I had more time I would certainly help out, as the translation is completely wrong at certain places. The second tab is translated “battle” in Norwegian for instance. Either way - lets see how this puppy works.
Ah, is that the default it gives you because if installing 64bit the default should be C:\Program Files\Jthink\SongKong not C:\Program Files b[/b]\Jthink\SongKong. this is how it works on Windows 7.
I think if you had installed it anywhere but C:\Program Files (x86) on C drive it would have worked.
If you just want to email me the really bad norweigen translations I can fix them for next release.
I tried that before contacting, and it does not seem to install to any of the two program files folders it would seem.
but it would install into a new folder , say c:\apps I dont think you need to install on D: drive. I would appreciate if you could try the 32bit version, I would bet on it working.
You are correct, its installing in the default folder. On a sidenote, as much as I understand the portability of Java, I home some day that the UI will be up to par with 2012 - it looks about the same as when I first learned Java in university in 2003. But functionality above form I guess.
Really, the gui looks very much standards Windows look to me (except for the file dialog which is outdated and I cant fix myself), have you any specific ideas on how I can improve it.
EDIT:Ive edited the the title of this post to better explain the problem
Installed 1.1 now and it works fine on Windows 8 64bit edition. Thanks!
