'Various Artist' album help...

I’m trying to decide whether to buy Jaikoz, having already spent 15 on another Windows tagger…

A problem I have with that particular program is that I set my renaming preferences to sort my files by artist folder, then by album folder, then by files, which works resonably well. However, If songs within an album folder have different ID3 information for their individual albums, for instance if I download a ‘greatest hits’ album which has each track’s album information listed as that track’s original album, rather than just ‘greatest hits’ or whatever, then the program will put each file into its own album folder, rather than putting them all into one ‘greatest hits’ folder. This also happens with ‘Various Artists’ albums, where each track lists its artist’s original album details, and so instead of putting all the tracks into a folder called ‘Movie Soundtrack’ or whatever it is, it will split all of the files into individual artist and album folders. There is a ‘various artists’ option on the program, but I can’t really see how it works, as I don’t want a folder for all of my ‘various artists’ albums, I just want them to be set apart from regular albums and named/located appropriately. Can Jaikoz do this? Does it have a ‘various artist’ mode?

Another problem I have is that sometimes within an artist folder, I’ll have a mix of both studio and live albums. When some of the albums contain the same track, they are mixed up and placed into the same folder, so I’ll have one album, with some studio tracks and some live tracks. This problem, I guess to a similar extent as the previous one, stems from the fact that I have my collection organised into folders pretty much how I like it, and only want to rename the files and fill in their tag info correctly, not relocate them… How good would Jaikoz be at doing this? I’ve used it successfully on two albums today, and although all the tagging options make it seem a little complicated, I’m sure it’s quite easy after you know what everything does…?

UPDATE: I guess what I want is all my files’ Album ID3 info to be taken from the name of the folder in which the files reside, as they’re always correct…is this possible?

This option isnt currently available, however the new version of Jaikoz (hopefully out later today) gives you much more control on how information is tagged from Musicbrainz.

Ah right, cool; will be looking out for it. Any ideas whether anything like this could be added to a ‘to-do’ list for future releases?

Yes Ive already added it for consideration
