Using folder name as metadata?

I ripped ~ 250 albums using .wav format using iTunes, which did not save metadata. I converted to .flac using dbpoweramp and saved to original file, which is artist/album. The file name is track # - title.

The issue: When bringing the music into jaikoz, it is not picking up artist or album. When I use auto correct, it places songs from one album into many different albums.

Is there a way to make the sub-folder (album) part of the metadata so it keeps the album all together?

Please ask me for clarification if this makes no sense.

I now use db to rip, then jaikoz to bring everything together, so I have no issues. I would hate to re-rip 250 albums!!!

Thanks!

Hi, yes there are two things you can do:

You can use Correct Metadata from Filename to extract values from the filename into metadata fields before you run Autocorrect. But for this to work you need to specify a mask that matches your filename in Preferences:File and Folder Correct:Correct Metadata from Filename and this only extracts data from the filename not the subfolder.

You can extract data from the subfolder using Jaikoz various editing tools as follows:

  1. Ensure BaseFolder, SubFolder, Album and Recording Id columns are visible.
  2. Drag Album Column so it is next after the subfolder column.
  3. Use Action/File and Folder Correct/Shift SubFolder to BaseFolder so that the artist part is shifted into the Base Folder column with just the album remaining in the subfolder column.
  4. Select fields in the album column, and select Edit/Delete to remove any incorrect album values.
  5. Select fields in the SubFolder and Album columns and select
Edit/Prepend to Right which works by copying the value of the left column into the corresponding fields on the same row in the right column.
  6. Use Use Action/File and Folder Correct/Shift BaseFolder to SubFolder to return basefolder and subfolder fields back to what they were…
  7. If you have already matched these songs incorrectly, delete the MB Recording Id so that they are not ignored when you run Autocorrect again.

You can also use Action:Match to release:Match Songs to one Musicbrainz Release to force the selected or listed songs to be matched to just one album.
