Using autocorrect to improve tagging of albums in folders

Hi
Just getting my head round Jaikoz (pro)
I have a largeish mp3 collection consisting of my cd collection ripped and a fair amount of purchased mp3s (albums)- structured in an /artist/album/ directory structure. So basic tagging is ok (apart from when cddb has had a funny turn) and all ‘releases’ are contained in individual directories - aside from some inconsistencies with multi CD albums.
I’d like some advice on the best way to use Jaikoz to improve and harmonise the tagging - my main objectives are to improve the tags to give:

  • Consistency in band names, and album naming conventions
  • Adding additional meta-data
  • Embedding cover art

I tried an autocorrect on the whole collection - a quick skim through the results looked encouraging - so i clicked save - several hrs later and - ooops

I now have a lot of odd tracks in albums that have been assigned to different albums. (yes i know i should have tried it out first on a few individual albums)

I looked into the preferences and realised i should have selected ‘Group songs by folder only’ and probably ‘only match complete releases’.

I then selected these options and have tried to re-run the auto correct but it doesn’t seem to be ‘pulling’ those miss-identified tracks back into the folder albums in the away i was expecting. I guess the group songs by folder option isn’t ‘strong’ enough?

Is the problem that having assigned those errant tracks an MB id this is overiding the match? (btw i have deselected do not match online if already have a musicbrainz id)

Are there any other settings i can use to strengthen the match when i know all tracks belong to one album (and indeed most of the tracks in the folder are already identified as being in that album)?

Before i copy ~150gb of data back across from backup - is it worth trying to recover from the autocorrect - ie are there any tricks i should to do such as deleting musicbrainz release ids?

Will i get any better results if i do restore my backed up files - ie does having overwritten some of the correct metadata (ie album title) mean the subsequent matches are worse, even with group songs by folder?

And if i want to try again from the restored data are there any settings I should use which will force jaikoz to keep all tracks in each directory to one album, and take account of the current album title fields which are basically correct (although of course one objective was to harmonise their naming conventions). The main sources of failure seem to have been reissued albums with bonus tracks (eg the pink floyd experience editions), various artist compilation albums and best of albums.

thanks for any help

Hi, the problem is that because you have already matched many of the songs to Musicbrainz all those songs are ignored when you rerun Autocorrect. You need to disable Preferences:Musicbrainz:Automatch:Do not match online if already have a Musicbrainz Recording Id

Then rerun autocorrect with the two extra options you suggested enabled.

Hi Paul
thanks for the reply - i had that option disabled already, but i’ve been looking through the matches and i have a bit more of an idea of what has happened - at least in some cases - where the album i have doesn’t exist on musicbrainz, then jaikoz may have spotted some individual tracks that matched other releases and changed them, now of course it can’t change them back even with the keep all tracks grouped in one folder option, because it can’t find the release.
so my only option is to restore my backed up files and then start from scratch
once i’ve done that i’ll have a look at how it performs with the correct options selected
