Hi, is it possible to use the genres/styles from the base release of Discogs? I noticed that this is often more accurate and the specific release differs from that.

No it is not possible currently. I havent noticed the difference in quality, do you have some examples you could share to show this.
On the page https://www.discogs.com/de/master/2970757-In-Flames-Foregone, the main release is labeled as both “Melodic Death Metal” and “Alternative Metal.” However, in the various releases listed, it is sometimes labeled as “Death Metal,” sometimes as “Heavy Metal” and sometimes remains the same. So it looks random for me what genre is picked for each album, and I need these specific subgenres because I build playlists with it.
Okay, well we don’t currently make use of Discogs masters at all, but we could do and I will consider it further.
