UnExpected Problem message starting Jaikoz 12.1

I updated Jaikoz to version 12.1 OutKast today (Jan 23) on both my 2020 iMac 27 inch , running Sequoia 15.2 and MackBook Pro (M1) also running Sequoia 15.2

Upon startup on both Mac computers, the main screen comes up (bright white) and then a pop-up appears saying there is an “Unexpected problem with Jaikoz please report” … etc
After hitting the ok button, it basically quit. (like it crashed)

I no longer have a working jaikoz app. Anyone else having this problem.

Probably an issue with upgrade routine

Try mimicing a new install by deleting your config as follows

From Finder, hold down Option Button and select Go menu
Select Library from the list
Go to Preferences folder
Delete Jaikoz folder
Start Jaikoz

Thanks Paul, this did work. ( for awhile ) After removing the folder as suggested, updating the license from an original license file from a couple years ago, and spent time to reset the preferences / settings. It appeared to be working.
However …
I then I went to my computer, Mac2, and repeated your process.
I grabbed the same original license file and applied it to Mac2. I exited Jaikox, and restarted it up. No problems yet.
It gave me a warning about too many computers. I ignored it since I only have 2 computers, and repeated the process of resetting the preferences / settings, and quit Jaikoz.
I thought everything was fine.

I went back to Mac1, to try changing a few songs with the new settings I had just done. It complained about too many computers, and immediately popped up the "Unexpected Problem … " again. I repeated the process all over again, thinking I may have missed something. This 3rd time on repeating the process on Mac1, it allowed me reapply the license, edit only 3 or 4 of the settings [appearance, preferred country to add the US, UK, ID3 tags]. I quit jaikoz, and restarted it. It complained again I had too many computers, and put it into view only mode. In frustration, I exited jaikoz.

I went back to Mac2, to see what I could do. Upon start up, it went immediately to the original Unexpected Problem popup.

[ I think you may have to reset something, and send me a new license file, so I can start over with just 2 computers]

Is there a connection with editing the settings and the license file?

It would be nice to save the “settings” file, so as to not have to redo that task.
At this point, I am not sure editing the settings was part of the Unexpected Problem error or maybe due to re-using the licences file.

Hi, computer usage is based on ethernet addresses so maybe in the past you had installed on a different computer. Anyway I have reset that now so that problem should go away if you restart.

Regarding settings issue can you

If it allows you to start Jaikoz run Advanced:Create Support Files,

If not

  • From Finder , hold down Option Button and select Go menu
  • Select Library from the list
  • Go to Preferences folder
  • Pm or email me the settings.properties file

In the meantime you could try repeating the procedure, and see if Jaikoz works okay if you dont modify the settings since it may be there is something you are changing is exposing a bug and breaking the settings file in some way.

Paul
Thanks for resetting the # of computers.
I was able to start up jaikoz, open a file, modify the file. The auto search found the song in a various artists album. I then saved the file. So far it works with the default, with minor changes to the settings.
However, since I do not like this choice of album, I want to change settings to not pick single or various artist albums.

I opened up settings to make some changes, such as what I want to see, and the order of them in each screen, file masks (chose one from the list), album choices and hit save.

Next, I ran the manual update on the same file, to update the bad album choice.
Since it is the first time, I ran the manual search, the pop up columns were extra large.
I changed the size of the columns on the resulting window, such as track number down to something reasonably small, along with many of the other columns on this search result screen.
At this point, when I hit save for the selection of album - the Unexpected Problem window popped up.

I think I will try this one more time on the other computer, before completely redoing the whole reset process.

In the meantime time, I will email you the settings file.

Do you mean Ethernet addresses as the IP address? IP addresses can change on their own. The Telco router seems to jump between my city and a city 300 km away. This may be what your system is picking up. What happens when someone is running a VPN, which is becoming more common.
My own internal router, only changes the IP address if I reboot it and any particular computer is not running. I am not sure which address your system picks up.

Hi, I tried using yor property files it didnt like this line

baseFolders=/Users/mainadmin/Music/MyMedia/Music/

but that may just be because I dont have that folder, im not sure it is your issue, it may be an issue in one of the other configuration files

But anyway it sounds like you can actually start Jaikoz, in which case please run Create Support Files so then I can see full stack trace when error occurs.

Thanks you for the support files. The error occurs on restart if you have added a seperator to the toolbar and you have Standard license instead of Premium license, this is because a check was added to the toolbar to see if feature is enabled based on license and unfortunately this does take into the account that the seperator is not a button lke everything else on the toolbar.

I wil issue a fix release today or tomorrow

Now fixed in Jaikoz 12.2
