Tagging of WAV Files

Having used iTunes up until very recently, I’ve never paid much attention to tagging stuff. I just ripped CDs in iTunes, using AIFF files, and there they were. I’ve now migrated my music over to a Melco disk server, where I find I want to use WAV files (they sound better on my system), so I’ve been working my way through clumps of albums in Jaikoz, and resaving them back.

Although MusicBrainz finds the albums and seems to tag them with title and artwork OK, when I look at the WAV tracks on the Bubble uPnP App. I’m using to play them, much information appears to be missing.

I’ve had a look through the various menus in Jaikoz, most of which completely baffle me, but I can’t work out what I’m supposed to do to fix this.

All help gratefully received, but please be gentle with me…

Hi, its one of two things

  1. There are some bug fixes for Wav files that are in the current version of SongKong but not Jaikoz, but you can fix Jaikoz by replacing jaudiotagger.jar with this one http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/scratch/jaudiotagger.jar

  2. Wav files used to only support LISTINFO tagging mechanism, and this on;y holds basic information such as AlbumArtist. Now Wav supports ID3 as well which can include more detailed information such as record label, barcode ectera. Jaikoz writes both formats but if you are using Twonky to serve BubbleUPnP on the Melco disk server it doesnt understand the new format, you need to use MinimServer instead.

Wow! Many thanks for such a speedy response Paul. I do know that Melco are coming up with a new software version soon, maybe that’ll fix it. I’ll try your file change first though. So how exactly do I change this file please?

Best wishes,

Tony.

Ok

  • Close Jaikoz
  • Download the link given above
  • From Finder right click on Jaikoz and select Show Package Contents
  • Navigate to Contents:Java folder
  • Copy jaudiotagger.jar into this folder overwriting the other one.
  • Start Jaikoz

I think it is already possible to use MinimServer if you speak to them.

Hi Paul, yes, I’ve got the info. and files for the Minimserver installation. I was hoping I could just stick with what Melco have done. Maybe I’ll wait for their new software update - they’re promising something “interesting”.
