Is there a way to get Jaikoz to report only the differences between two songs?

Background, I use Squeezeserver to play all of my music, but its database seems to sort songs in a very particular manner and notices the tiniest differences between songs - with the result that I get a lot of albums appearing with 2 entries in the Squeeze server listings… this has been bugging me for years, and manual correction can only go so far.

My current method with new albums (I havn’t attacked my backlog yet) is to turn on all columns in Jaikoz and sidescroll, sidescroll, sidescroll until I spot something incongrous and then try to edit manually edit. This doesn’t always work on first attempt, or second or third… and I have some albums that I have given up on :frowning:

It would be great if I could select two tracks and get Jaikoz to tell me what the differences are - and only the differences. To help speed up the process… I was going to start a FR… but thinking about Jaikoz has gotten so big over the years - I wouldn’t be surprised if this already existed and I have missed it.

What I do is:

copy one of the entries that is correct
Right click the column header for the column and select “Set Value”
Paste the previously copied correct value.

This makes sure that all of the columns that should contain the same value do indeed contain the same value.

Thanks markfaine, that’s a neat tip.
Still won’t help me find the differences any quicker though :frowning: and sometimes differences can’t be found… I’m starting to suspects I need to delete all but one tag format. I think my song would have data stored in different ID3 versions and that might be where the conflicts hide.

It will eliminate the need to find the differences. Of course, this depends on two things:

You categorize your music into folders by album
You know which values are correct.

If there are 20 columns getting populated by Musicbrainz, that can be an awful lot of sidescrolling and visual inspection to find difference :frowning: and that’s just one format.

Music is “foldered” by Artist then Album, but at this stage I’m not too fussed which sub-field is more correct when there are only minor differences like a catalog number or country of origin - so long as they are all the same and don’t make split entries in my Squeezbox DB then I’ll be happy.

If I find differences in a column I don’t care about, I’ll just as quickly delete the whole column, just to make everything match. It’s frustration making me do that though. I wouldn’t be a Jaikoz customer unless I at least somewhat obsessive about getting everything ‘just right’.

So true.

I’ve taken to converting my flac tracs to an image with an embedded cuesheet. It works well with squeezebox server. I rip to tracks, tag with Jaikoz, then I have shell scripts to do the rest. The process goes like this:

  1. Open, retrieve, and verify all tags I need are set (MB and Acoustic ID, etc.)
  2. Add replay gain, extract tags to file in format TAG[TRACKNUMBER]=value for track based tags just TAG=value for album based tags
  3. Convert tracks to a single joined wav file.
  4. Convert .wav file to flac file.
  5. import tags
  6. import cuesheet as both a tag and flac block data.

Squeezebox server can read both the tags and the cuesheet block data. The process isn’t as much work as it appears to be since it is mostly automated. Using Jaikoz is the most labor and time intensive of the steps but it is worth it.

I think in windows there are free programs that help with some of this (flacattack, something else I can’t remember). You should give it a try with an album to see if it is useful to you.
