SongKong duplicate files handling

When I correct my songs with SongKong, duplicate, numbered directories are created.
…Pink Floyd/A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1)/01 02 Learning to Fly.mp3
…Pink Floyd/A Momentary Lapse of Reason (2)/01 02 Learning to Fly.mp3

And duplicate directories with different capitalization.
…Pink Floyd/A Momentary Lapse Of Reason (1)/
…Pink Floyd/A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1)/

I use SongKong 4.10.1 and Ubuntu 16.04.3 as OS

How can I stop this?

Thank you, Thomas

This was an improvement added in SongKong 4.10. Duplicate numbered directories are only added when you have duplicate files. The logic is that many people may have multiple versions of the same album or transcoded versions of the same album so would not want those albums merged into a single folder.

You should also have …Pink Floyd/A Momentary Lapse of Reason/01 02 Learning to Fly.mp3 i.e without the number. There is not an option to not create these multiple folders but it s seems a better approach then putting all the files in one folder.

It must do this because your metadata is different. Probably some song shave only been matched to Discogs which doesn’t have as good capitalization rules as MusicBrainz. The report should be able to determine this for you. Rerunning matching wit the improved metadata added by Discogs may now allow match to MusicBrainz which should then resolve this issue.

Thanks for the reply
Can I remove the duplicate files with “Delete Duplicate Songs”? I tried it with “fdupes”.
How do I select only the numbered directories?
I just want to keep one (the “best”) version of the song.

When you run Delete Duplicates and the options come up , select the Advanced tab and this lets you choose the criteria (in order) for deciding what criteria should be used to use the file to be deleted when duplicates files are found.

Moving the following options to the top should have the desired effect.

  • File creation Date
  • Filename Criteria
  • File modified Date
