Hi Paul, I just emailed you the logs, Please let me know. Thanks

Hi, sorry I seem to have lost this email could you please resend.

I too had the same problem, I downloaded and paid for this program straight up thinking it could do as promised as I only purchased it to find songs that I had little or no idea as to what they were. I tried it on a folder of 20 completely unknown songs as far as I am concerned and guess what…I still don’t know any of them…now I have a massively huge collection of music, sourced from all over the place. I have a folder of about 500 songs I wouldn’t have a clue what they are. given that 20 absolutely random ones came back with zero results what’s my chances on the other 480 odd…one thing which I did make sure of is that all of these songs actually originated from commercially released albums from a batch I was given by a traveller through PNG.

I am not so much disappointed in that the program didn’t do what all the advertising said it could do, but more so that it didn’t say that if youre songs are too obscure we may not find them, say something like if Shazam can’t find them then neither can we…
In a way I feel like I have been duped a bit.
I don’t know if I am such a supporter of a program that is so expensive but seems to give very little for the money. You can’t edit any mistakes the program might make, it only offers organization for ITunes (not everyone is in love with that, especially if over 2 million Winamp users are anything to go by. The lesson I guess from all of this is try before you buy.
I was thinking about buying the other product Jaikoz but I don’t know now…
Any other people out there with similar stories to tell…
cheers Chervern

Hi can we clarify a few points here:

  1. The free trial lets you run over your whole collection and shows exactly what is matched and how is matched so you don’t need hope that SongKong can match your songs you can ensure it does before purchase.

  2. Why just check 20 songs, if they are very obscure its unrealistic to expect all to be matched but that doesn’t mean none will be matched, why not try the other 480.

  3. The music database contains many many obscure releases but it doesn’t contain every song, I make no pretense that SongKong will match 100 % of songs but tests and responses from customers indicate an average matching percentage of over 85%. Shazam uses a different database then we do so whether or not Shazam matches them is not an indicator of whether or not SongKong will match them.

  4. I think you actually may have your settings configured incorrectly, Song tries hard not to mess up any existing collections so if you have a folder of 20 songs SongKong will assume that it is a folder representing a single album. If it is not a single album it will not allow match unless you uncheck Only allow match if all songs in grouping match to one album so please try that.

  5. I think the best thing is to change the preference, run against a larger sample, and then if the results aren’t as good as you hoped email support@jthink.net with your support files (Help:Create Support Files) and we can take it from there.

Also if the songs in the folder contains songs from more than one album but they are:

  1. Incomplete (i,e dont have all songs of album)
  2. Files contains no existing metadata

You need to uncheck Only allow match if all tracks in album were matched.

Point 2. is being addressed by http://jthink.net:8081/browse/SONGKONG-732 so in the next version of SongKong you’ll only need to do this for 1, which is the intended use of that option.

SongKong 3.4 now released, this may well fix the issue you were having.
