Song Kong Fix Songs stops in the middle of song collection

Song Kong Fix Songs stoped in the middle of my song collection of about 14,000 songs. When I ran Fix Songs on individual albums or small groups of albums in that collection sequentially, Fix Songs got through all of the songs. While that is a workaround, it is not very user friendly and ate quite some time. Also, I still have a large number of albums which still show no album or song titles.

Hi, thanks for your support files, but unfortunately it only sends the last 5 reports and these all seem to be small runs of less than 100 songs that succeeded so I can’t see the problem run. If possible could you retry over whole collection, and if does get stuck just restart SongKong and then immediately run Create Support Files

This is running on a Melco right ?

SongKong is written in Java, and like all Java applications it runs using a component called the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The JVM is the underlying runtime that manages things such as memory and communicates with the operating system and hardware. SongKong itself is the application; the JVM is simply the software layer that allows it to run on different platforms such as Windows, macOS and the Melco with the same code.

I have checked the diagnostic files and can see that in this case it was the JVM itself that crashed, rather than SongKong reporting a normal application error

The Melco uses an older 32-bit ARM processor and an older Java runtime. Unfortunately this Java runtime cannot be updated on the Melco, and under unusually heavy memory usage it appears that the JVM itself can occasionally fail. This is rare, but processing an entire music collection for the first time is one of the most demanding things SongKong can do.

Your license can be used on upto three devices including regular computers so for the initial matching of your complete collection, I would therefore recommend mounting the Melco music share on a Windows PC or Mac and running SongKong on the computer against the Melco files. This lets SongKong use the much newer Java runtime and greater resources available on the computer, while still updating the files stored on the Melco.

Once the initial whole-collection matching has been completed, using SongKong directly on the Melco should normally be fine for processing smaller groups of files and for subsequent maintenance tasks.

I have also made some changes for the next SongKong release so that, if this rare problem occurs again on a Melco, we should get more useful diagnostic information.
