Some questions on music library organization.

Hi guys,

I own Jaikoz, tuneup and musicbrainz picard. Ive yet to use any in depth… I bought Jaikoz in its early days when I was releasing stuff trough my label…

Now I have a large library that needs some cleaning up… But first I wanted to start on a folder level… Batch name folders ( Artist - Year - album) then deal with the songs. Im not sure whether Jaikoz or picard is the tool for this. I know tuneup is not.

So I am about to tackle the task of tidying my music… I own Musicbrainz picard, Jaikoz (bought in the early days when I was releasing my own material) and tuneup.

First of all I was wondering if there is a way I could attack all my folders first. In the below video you can see how he uses musicbrainz to do multiple songs and it places them into folder neatly organized.

I have so many folders of albums that need name cleaning etc… I am a little scared to do all songs at once. Id like to folder by folder or a few folders at a time… Is there away to just address the folders and then address the songs later? You know what I mean? Also does musicbrains write over your original stuff? Im worried it might make mistakes? What is the safest way to operate?

Any reccomended process much appreciated guys, I included other software I own so you may suggest a certain workflow.

Also Why does musicbrainz supply 3 different programs that do essentially the same thing? Is picard the big mama? I know as I am on a mac I only have a choice of the 2 Picard and yate but why is there different onces and does any use both for a certain reason?

I think you mean you want to reorganize your files based on existing metadata ?

Jaikoz splits a files path into Base Folder, Sub Folder and Filename. Base folder is the root of the path such as C:\Music, sub folder is the part of the path that is affected by the metadata - and what you want to change.

1. Modify Preferences:File and Folder Correct:Rename Sub Folder Mask:Rename Mask and Compilation Rename mask to what you want

2. Run Action:File and Folder Correct:Correct Sub Folders from Metadata

3. If not visible already enabled the Base Folder, Sub Folder and Filename columns in the main edit display

4. Check you are happy with new folder names, and if so Save Changes

Thank you is there any video tutorials for this?

My ideal situation here is to get my library to display as follows.

Artist/(Year) Album/Song title

I would also like it that live albums get put into their own respective folder.

E.G: Artist/Live/Live albums …

If thats not possible then for the live albums to have (Live) at the end of their folder name…

Is any of this possible? lol… Its a great software and I am very greatful for your work to bring us this, but it seems a litle daunting at first for sure…

No video tutorials, sorry there should be and I need to do it. I have done a few for Songkong https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBEfu8eXW2xq54kLV_Gw5ZnG6igZEM6KO , and Songkong is certainly simpler then Jaikoz.

Have a go though, its just Javascript expressions.

If you cant work it out I’ll have a go later on, but Im too busy this moment.
