Saving Itunes rating (how does this work?)

Hi, firstly congratulations on a great program. Ive only just discovered Jaikoz and Im thinking I could have saved ALOT of time using it instead of the process Ive just been throgh.

Anyway, Ive finally sorted my mp3’s and ended up with some pretty accurate and complete id3 tags. Including the rating field.

Id like to use these ratings in Itunes (using Itunes for the home sharing ability), however Im aware that Itunes will not read the rating field from the id3, but rather stores its own one in its database. So its not stored with the mp3 but with Itunes itself.

I believe (from what Ive read) that if I enable Itunes compatibility in the Jaikoz settings, and save the tag, that this can update the Itunes rating.

Firstly, am I correct with this?
And if so, how does this work? Does this relate to the relative file directory, an ID which Itunes creates? Filename…?

Jaikoz seems to struggle accessing my mp3s across a network (probably the network rather than Jaikoz!) and I wanted to access and save them locally in Jaikoz before accessing them in Itunes on the network. Is this going to work?

Thanks in advance.

Set [b]Preferences:Save:Compatability:Upload and Save ratings[b] to iTunes so that Jaikoz uses the correct iTunes scale to store the rating.

Then if everything is enabled in Preferences:Save:iTunes Autoupdate the songs should be updated/added to iTunes when saved and the ratings imported into iTunes. I’m not quite sure what happens if the songs is already in iTunes and lready has a rating though so I suggest you try it out.

What protocol are you using to access your network, there can be problems with NFS, but regardless working on files locally will certainly be quicker.

If you want to work on them locally but then finally store them on network and you can throw your iTunes config away and start again I would suggest the following:

  1. Move your music to local drive
  2. Configure Jaikoz to Save and Move to networked drive
  3. Ensure iTunes configured not to copy files or manage media
  4. Correct from Jaikoz when you select Save and Move the files should be moved to network and added to iTunes with ratings.

But whatever you do please test on a small set of files first and ensure it is working as you require before applying to all your files
