Save Problem

I’m interested in this software but i can’t quite work out what is going wrong here.

Example: David Bowie’s album Space Oddity
I have the album in a folder called Space Oddity 1969 (the date being when it was released). The tracks are Track 01 etc, ie, no names. This is in Windows Explorer. So…

1. I open the folder in Jaikoz
2. I click the autocorrect feature and it finds all the correct info so I can see something like Janine David Bowie Space Oddity 06
3. I click save changes and the following happens. The track names in Windows Explorer are changed to, eg, David Bowie-Space Oddity 1969-06-Janine
4. the folder name doesn’t change and remains as Space Oddity 1969
5. I try action - corrrect file name from tags but that opens a window whcih disappears almost instantly and nothing happens

My question is why do the track names change to contain all the data rather than just the track name?

Because you ran corrrect file name from tags (which wil be pretty much instantaneous one for album) , and the default mask it uses is $if(%bestartist%,%bestartist%-)$if(%album%,%album%-)$if(%trackno%,%trackno%-)%title%. This can be modified at Preferences/File and Folder Correct/Rename File from Tags

To rename the folder itself, you need to run Correct SubFolder from tags

I’m afraid this is a bit confusing.

I opened the same folder (album) and clicked the auto correct button again. The correct data appears in the edit panel.

Then I followed your instructions and changed the ‘rename file from tags’ preference to just ‘track name’ and saved the preference. I have a lot of albums without info and would like to buy this software if I can understand how it works. If you can help me out I’d be grateful.

Save changes saves the changes to the metadata within the file AND if you have renamed/moved the file it will rename/move the file as well.

Its should do, perhaps try again, then send me your logs using Action/Create Support Files and I will be able to see exactly what you did run and help you further.

Hi. I’ve listed exactly what I did this time and with a different album. The log is at the bottom.

1. In my computer the album is in a folder called Bananarama and each song is called “01 Track o1” etc

2. file-open folder and it brings up 13 songs

3. autocorrect. gets most of the file names but with multiple album names. so i change the album names all back to ‘bananarama’

4. file-save changes.

5. correct file names from tags. does something but the file names don’t change in windows explorer

6. file-exit. comes up with a msg “…modified but not changed. save before exiting”

7. i click yes. jaikoz closes and the file names get changed.

Okay, thats look fine so what is the problem, are you telling me that
D:\music\Bananarama\Bananarama\12 Track 12.mp3
has not been renamed to D:\music\Bananarama\Bananarama\Cruel Summer.mp3

If so I need the debug log as well email me the file created by using Action/Create Support Files

or are you saying that only some files now have a title in the filename because track 7, 13 and 14 still have not. But i assume that is because these tracks were not automathed (From log only 9 of 13 9 tags were corrected from MusicBrainz successfully)therefore the title is still incorrect and the filename just reflects the incorrect title.

Hi. The file name does get changed but not when I do Action-Change file names. They change only when I exit the program.
Even though I do Action-Correct file names nothing appears to happen. However, when I exit the Jaikoz prog it tells me “…modified but not changed”. If I click “yes” it will change the file names and then exit but if I click “no” it will just exit.

What is odd to me is why the file names don’t change when I click Action - Change file names. It is as if that action doesn’t do anything.

I tried again with a differrent album and both logs are below.

What is odd to me is why the file names don’t change when I click Action - Change file names. It is as if that action doesn’t do anything.

Because you might not like the filenames that Jaikoz has created for you.

Some programs like iTunes that take control away from you without explaining what is happening. But Jaikoz works on the premise that it tries to lots of things for you automatically without requiring your involvement BUT doesnt commit any of these changes until you select Action/Save Changes so you always have the opportunity to cancel any changes.

I suppose Correct Filenames from Tags is more confusing if you haven’t got the filename column displayed when you run it because you cant see the effect of your changes on screen.

Ah…there’s the answer
I understand now. And if I view ID3 Edit the change is visible.
OK I’ll get this software shortly.
