save preferences?

I have a random question for you. I often have wondered what the ‘Save Preferences’ option is for under the File menu. I am guessing it is for more than to just save the preferences of settings changed in the preferences window as there is a saved button there.

Is it like Save Layout or Save View or something?

It just saves preferences, because within Preferences you can configure to not save preferences as you go along, but really I should probably remove these options.
