Is anyone aware of a nice summary / explanation of some of the technical aspects of saving album art in iTunes on a Mac (e.g., where are the graphics files saved, how do you modify them and have the new versions consistently show up in iTunes ?). I certainly know how to save album art to single or multiple audio files using either JAT or iTunes itself. I’ve resized most of my album cover images to 800x800 since that resolution results in a modest size (usually less than 1 MB) JPEG file and seems to give the nicest image using Apple TV on a large screen TV. I’m using the latest versions of OSX and JAT, and I use Aperture to scan and/or optimize album art files. Neither JAT nor iTunes complains about saving the audio files with the new album art files, but the album art still remains blank in iTunes. I’ve got to be missing a step somewhere. It seems to be a problem just with mp3 files for which I’ve tinkered with the art file. I’ve tried renaming the modified art file back to “folder.jpg” in the same subdirectory as the music files and then reattaching the art files to the music files with JAT or iTunes, but with no success. Of course I always delete and reload the modified mp3’s in iTunes, but this makes no difference. I’ve tried Google searches and searches on this site and on Apple and can’t find an answer. Surely somewhere there is an explanation of what iTunes does with these art files and how one can modify them effectively. Advice or referral to a useful reference would be appreciated. Thanks.
Revised album covers do not show up in iTunes
Artwork saved to your files in Jaikoz should display in iTunes, although if you do not have Update ITunes from Jaikoz enabled you might have to right click on the file in iTunes and select Get Info to refresh it.
Files added to iTunes manually should also be visible to Jaikoz, but artwork downloaded from iTunes is not visible to any application other than iTunes , although there are scripts to to copy this artwork to your file proper.
If you have added artwork to a file in Jaikoz and it is still not visible within iTunes email me the file and I will take a look.
