While I was “Retrieve Acoustic ID” I noticed that the “Date Modified” changed to the current time when an ID was found. That suggest that the file is changed before the file is saved.
Is this normal?

yes, its normal but just for this operation.
Normally when you make changes the changes arent made until you elect to save changes, but when you elect to ‘Retrieve Acoustic Ids’ the acoustic id is saved to the file as it is retrieved, any other fields that you may have edited ARE NOT saved at this point.
Jaikoz does this because Acoustic Ids do not need checking, they are always correct and once you have retrieved the acoustic id for a track it will never change. Additionally sometimes customers run ‘Retrive Acoustic Ids’ over thousands of tracks overnight, retrieving acoustic ids is relatively slow and if the task or your computer fails for any reason then it is better that the tracks that the ids that have been retrieved are saved instead of having to start all over again.
But if you dont want to do this you can override by unchecking Preferences/Musicbrainz/MusicIP/Save Acoustic Ids to file as retrieved.
