Restoring compilations

Hi! I’ve used Jaikoz for well, over a decade now. It has been by far away the best thing to have ever happened to my music collection. However, having it over several versions, I think I’ve inadvertently introduced an error that I’m regretting.

A large number of songs that I had were parts of compilations. I had the software re-tagged them in previous years to reflect the original recording. What I want to do now is try and restore the compilations.

Any advice on how to do this and how complicated it would be?

Are the songs still organized in folders that represent the compilation or are they now split into original album folders ?

Original album folders sadly

Okay so im assuming there is no compilation metadata in the files, so if there is no compilation in the folder structure either there is nothing to link a particular song to a particular compilation. Since songs are often on multiple compilations so it is unfortunately impossible to automatically match to the right compilation.

Going from compilation (as you did) to orginal album is much easier because you can group the songs by artist and hence just try to find the best match for the songs to the artists albums.

If you want to install SongKong run the free Status Report and then Create Support Files I can have a quick look for you to see if there is a solution but it doesnt sound like it.

I did forget about Manual Match to MusicBrainz. This works in a semi-automated way presenting the best matches and allowing you to select the match to choose

Might work for you.
