Rename files

Hi,

First of all sorry if this question has already been raised somewhere.

I want to know how to avoid or replace specials characters in file/folder.

I want something like that for file :
01-adele-rolling_in_the_deep.mp3
06-adele-he_wont_go.mp3
And like that for folder:

Actually I’m using the matrix to replace characters, but I have to enable/disable this feature for file/folder
NB: I have a problem with apostrophe like with He won’t go, how can I delete them ?

Thanks.

Hi, why do you have to disable the feature, what happens if you enable the 'Replace ‘From’ Character With ‘To’ Character.

Because I don’t need this feature to convert folder names. I’m using this feature only to convert filenames (replace space character by underscore, lower-case by upper-case, etc.)

I don’t know how to do this behaviour in a different way (without change configuration)

Oh, so you are saying that you want apostrophes removed when creating the filename but not removed when creating the subfolder. Why would you want to do this after all both the subfolder and foilename fields are part of the absolute filename. Most people use this feature to overcome restrictions on the filename imposed by the operating system but these restrictions would apply to both the subfolder and filename.

Yes, I want that. I dont know why, but I don’t use the same rules for file and folder.
For file => filename to avoid restrictions imposed by the operating system (maybe a new option can do that without using the matrix to replace ‘from’ character ‘to’ character ?!)
For folder => Other rule

Sorry but if you do not even know why you handle folder and files differently then I cant help but feel that this issue doesnt justify another preference

Maybe the best way is to propose the feature to rename (file AND folder) with name who respects restrictions imposed by the system.
You have right, it’s strange to don’t use the same rules. I will change the name of my folders.
But I suppose the solution will keep the letter case (and I prefer lowercase for file AND keep unchanged the case for folder)
