Preferences update from 5.x to 8.4.2?

Hi -
LOVE Jaikoz (pro) - it saved my library, as it was basically unusable. 2 years ago I spent many hours using Jaikoz, loving how powerful and easy it was.

I had my preferences all tuned up… but haven’t used it in 2 years.

I’ve also built a new computer.

So: how do I move & upgrade Jaikoz from 5.x to 8.4.2, without losing my preferences?

Can I literally just copy the settings over from my User directory? Or should I install 5.x on the new computer, copy over the settings, then upgrade to 842?

Or do I need to step through installing each version to keep the settings?

Thanks!

Hi, thankyou, please spread the word.

The preferences are stored in a different location to the application. So just install the new version over the old version and Jaikoz will convert the preferences for you, that gives you 8.4.2 on your old computer.

Then install Jaikoz 842 on your new computer.

Then copy your preferences from your old to your new, exactly where these are depends on your OS.

What OS are you using ?

Hi -
Sorry - life got busy!

I’m on Windows 7 x64. I see the settings in my User\Jaikoz directory, so I made a copy of this directory.

However, when I run the 842 x64 installer, it says “Incompatible installation detected. Uninstall, or choose another directory to install to.”

I ran the installer “As Administrator”, too, but got the same error.

I have Jaikoz 6.1.0 (1132) installed in the default location (C:\Program Files\JThink). I have some older versions installed nearby, e.g. (C:\Program Files\JThink\Jaikoz - 55, and similar).

Thoughts?

There is an incompatability between an older and newer version of the installer. Just delete the C:\Program Files\JThink\Jaikoz folder then install.
