New user - Can I execute in 1 run, or is it multiple steps?

I have a large database with duplicates and a mixture of data quality (I.E. different naming conventions, different file storage conventions, better/worse meta-data, etc). I want to:

  1. Repair meta-data from from musicbrainz
  2. Rename files from Metadata (but only if metadata is updated from musicbrainz - not the existing suspect metadata)
  3. Delete Duplicates
  4. Move files that were successfully “fixed” to a new folder/subfolder.

Can I do this in one pass, or should I run once to repair the meta-data and then run again to rename/delete/move? My concern is that if I do it all at once that it might, for example, rename files/folders using the bad (pre-fixed) Metadata.

I see your point, this is what I would suggest:

  1. Run Autocorrect on a small subset of data (approx 200 files), and see if you are happy with the results (at this point nothing has been saved) . If not review the preferences there are various things you can do to restrict matching further or widen matching - it all depends on how your files are organized and what you consider fixed.

i.e.
Do you want to match from Discogs and Musicbrainz or just MusicBrainz ?

Are your songs already organized one album per folder, would you consider it a good match if all songs in folder were matched to one album even if they matched an album with more tracks ?

If able to match to the right song but not to the same album as the current metadata do you want to do match or ignore ?

  1. Once ready you can run Autocorrecter again to match your data, and include Correct Filename from Metadata. (this will rename all files but remember nothing saved at this point)

  2. Review Changes

  3. Run File:Save if Matched to only save the files that have actually been matched.

  4. Close all Files, and reopen

  5. Review Preferences:Local Correct:Delete Duplicates and configure accordingly

  6. Run Action:Delete Duplicates

  7. Review deletions then run Save Changes to actually delete the duplicates

  8. Run File:Save and Move if Matched to move all the files that have been matched to a new root folder.
