New Jaikoz icon

Ben working on a new Jaikoz icon, I haven’t built it from scratch (Im not a Graphic Designer) but search around for something I could use/afford and made some adjustments

The idea was :
It should be well drawn, and available at high resolution.
Should have something to do with Music
Should look modern and Jazzy.

Nice! something for the program logo / desktop shortcut icon?

Looks like an orange version of the blue one used for world music.

Yes, I did convert an icon that was blue, what application uses it for World Music ?

I think the orange links in with MusicBrainz a bit

hmm.not sure about it now, looks good large but when viewed as 64x64 icon on windows toolbar looks a bit small because the globe only takes up half the space, and there is quite a gap between the globe and the headphones

I think going to go with one instead:

Looks great, but does it really convey what the app is/does?

Well its a speaker signifying sound, i.e music

So only loosely explains, but then Facebook just has fb on blue, firefox browser is a fox around a globe, twitter is a bird and Winamp a lightning bolt.

I don’t expect this to be the final iteration but its an improvement, and means I have a high res icon properly drawn unlike the current image, and at least it is a loosely related to what Jaikoz does, and unlike the current image not related to bug fixing.

I agree, jaikoz is in serious need of a new icon!

Okay, attempt no 3 http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/images/jaikoz512x512.png

puzzle pieces? Random idea

Not a big fan of the bandaid. Usually bandaids signify bandaid solutions to me. Something that is temporary and not a final solution or actual fix.

Out of curiosity, what was the original idea behind the ladybug? Does it have any significance? Could always do a nice updated look on that with headphones or something if it does.

The ladybug was just the most appealing free icon I could find at the time, years ago. Unfortunately its only significance to most is that it represents bugs (i.e computer bugs) and is similar to a bug icon (reopresenting computer bugs) on linux, so I want to ditch that look.

So it was been pointed out that headphones do not make sense because Jaikoz is about fixing music rather than playing music. So the new icon represents fixing music, I did consider using a tool and record combination but a hammer is already used to indicate preferences, and anyway hammers are for breaking things, I nearly went with a drill but could not find an icon I liked

I take your point about a plaster representing temporary, I had’nt thought of that, however I still think it works well enough, and Ive just updated all the screenshots for the second time, so Im sticking with it - at least for now.
