New Features (Post Jaikoz 2.5)

I though I’d try and give you some idea of what will be in the forthcoming releases of Jaikoz, this is updated post Jaikoz 2.5. The following is a list in priority order of all the top 15 new features. These are all quite chunky pieces of work,

  1. Add support for Windows Media Audio (wma) files.
  2. Use embedded database when loading files instead of holding all metadata in memory, this should allow collections of any size to be loaded.
  3. Monitor changes to files, to allow quick loading of library without having to recheck every file.
  4. Add toolbar icons for more of the tasks
  5. Add the ability to backup and restore the metadata from the files
  6. Provided support for 3rd parties to develop plugins for Jaikoz
  7. Provide scripting for better file and folder renaming
  8. Allow all folksonomy tags from musicbrainz for a track to be saved to another field then genre.
  9. Add option for converting from Charset x for incorrectly encoded Mp3 files
  10. Add Support for Flac files embedded within Ogg Format
  11. Add the ability to drag and drop iTunes playlist to Jaikoz
  12. Have a recently opened folder list
13.Add support for reading BMP images
14.Add support for getting genres from last.fm
    15.Add some more reports
    16.Tagging from Discogs

Issue 16: Support for tagging from Discogs has been added in Jaikoz 2.6.0

Issue 1:WMA Support added in Jaikoz 2.8

Hi there!

2. Use embedded database when loading files instead of holding all metadata in memory, this should allow collections of any size to be loaded.
3. Monitor changes to files, to allow quick loading of library without having to recheck every file.
14. Add support for getting genres from last.fm

These would be my most expected features. I have a pretty big mp3 collection (about 30’000) and I can hardly load a group of more than 2000 at a time without experiencing problems with the soft. It does also take a very long time to save the changes made to the tags when loading such a large collection.

Furthermore to make such a big track collection usable, one needs to have them properly sorted by genre. Musicbrainz is pretty much incoherent between tracks of the same artists or even the same album on that matter. Therefore enjoying a consistent genre tagging from last.fm would really help when creating a browsable library in a media player. Problem might be though that last.fm has several genre entries for each artists, whereas only one for each artist would propably be easier to manage.

I hope you will be able to implement those features in the nearest future! Best regards

By the way: thanks for having made this amazing software. It is the very first one I use that does the work so well!

Issue 13:BMP Support implemented in Jaikoz 2.8.2

Any update on #3 ?

Thank you for a superb app btw! What would be the best workflow when working with a big collections? The way Ive done it so far;

  1. Import my entire collection
  2. Run Autocorrect
  3. List on album cover and artist (Autocorrect seems to have done a good job when cover is found)
  4. Manually review all albums, do local / remote corrections
  5. Close the files when corrected

I run in to a problem when i want to close Jaikoz / shutdown my computer.

Is there a way to view which files Jaikoz has applied changes to?
I tried using the Export function, I thought this was related to this, but that was obviously not the case.

I tried Save and Move as well, but not luck there either. Is the idea that you save changes and move the files to a new directory?

No #3 has not been done yet

You don’t say what problem you run into when closing Jaikoz, coulkd you repost to the issues forum.

You can use View/Show View Pane to compare view and edit panes, and you can enable Preferences/Table/Synchronisation/Highlight changes in different colour to show fields that have been edited. These allow you to see changes BEFORE you save the changes to the files.

You could also load songs into Jaikoz, and use the Export function to save details to a spreadsheet, then make changes in Jaikoz and re-export the details and then you can compare the differences AFTER saved changes using your favourite spreadsheet application.
