Musicbrainz submitter - duplicate entries

Hello,
SK works quite well, though finding that after asking it to create msuicbrainz submission forms for albums on disc (which is a great feature btw, saves so much time!), am finding that there are around 20% of the forms it fills out already have an entry in musicbrainz for exactly the same album/EP, with the same metadata, track data etc.

Can I do anything so that SK picks up these albums automatically, either via the find album option or otherwise, to reduce workload?

Thank you!

Have you run Fix Songs first and SongKong has failed to find a match or have you not run Fix Songs?

I had been, though to make sure:

  1. Today I ensured that all albums in “untagged” were in untagged as root.

  2. Ran fix songs, then renamed/moved the found audio to the main music folder, ran the Bandcamp search (it matched one audio file, I believe, but seems in results none were matched), then the musicbrainz form filler.

  3. I asked for 70 forms (too many, it created 19 forms) from 292 folders)

  4. Albums that it created a form for that were alraedy in teh msuicbrainz db:

VA - Santa Claude (Volume 4)
Nicola Conte - Terra Em Transe / Naquela Base

Audio from Bandcamp that SK didn’t match to bandcamp

Not as many duplicates and bandcamp not founds as I’ve been whittling it down over the past few days manually adding them to musicbrainz, often I would check if the album that SK has created a muscibrainz submission form for is in bandcamp, and if it is I use the musicbrainz bandcamp scripts that add the “sbumit to musicbrainz” button to the bandcamp album/EP/singles pages that populates a musicbrainz submission form with a few more details than SK can (webpages etc). This happend perhaps 20-40 times over the past weekend.

In the past you mentioned that the bandcamp matching depends on how the audio/albums are added to artist pages, and it’s slow and hit and miss, and considering SK is really useful already and saves a lot of time, this is more FYI rather than a request to improve the musicbrainz and bandcamp matching rate, as I imagine you’ve done everything you can already, and perhaps a great deal of the issues with matching to audio is the metadata/song names of the audio on disk not matching musicbrainz/bandcamp data (though it seems from teh manual entry I’ve been doing over past few days, 90% of the time the audio files seem to be accurate).

Thanks for making such great software!

(I submitted a new report if you want to view it.)

If you haven’t already can you run Create Support Files please and I will look tomorrow

Okay the issue is that Fix Songs works from our cached Albunack copy of MusicBrainz, and this can be a couple of months out of date and both these releases have only just been added to MusicBrainz so they are not visible to Fix Songs

If you know they are in MusicBrainz you can fix one one by using Match to One Album for these cases.

When we run Add to MusicBrainz it assumes we have already matched our songs to MusicBrainz and therefore the ones that look like valid releases with good metadata but not matched it creates a submission form for. Now we could potentially run a pre-check against live MusicBrainz database for these releases and if we find potential match not create form submission, but here are a few problems with this:

  • It will run slower because now has to makes calls to MusicBrainz
  • In some cases it is going to be a bit unclear if it is the same release or a different version, so we are going to have to do a full check and score and even then may incorrectly discard because it is maybe a duplicate release
  • Most importantly there is a benefit you may not have considered of the way it is currently working. The hard work of creating and opening the form pages is done by SongKong, if there are potential duplicates they are shown on the Duplicates tab. Therefore if this tab does exist you should be able to quickly work out if not really a duplicate and therefore ignore or it is a duplicate and now you have the Release Id and can quickly add with Match to Release even though not yet in Albunack!

The track order is totally different and you only have five tracks and they have six

Terra Em Transe / Naquela Base | Nicola Conte

Not sure, it is reporting that running

https://bandcamp.com/search?q=nicola+conte&item_type=b

returns no results but it does when i try it within Web Browser.

[Sweet Edits | Dizzy K. | Sticky Buttons

It first search for artist with

https://bandcamp.com/search?q=dizzy+k&item_type=b

that doesn’t actually return anything, even adding the . after k makes no difference but then search just by album name with

https://bandcamp.com/search?q=sweet+edits&item_type=a

Does return the right album as second option so I cant work out why it didnt seem to score this one, will have to investigate further.

Are you able to send me examples two and three for testing purposes.
