Wow, I just ran Autocorrect on my library, and now most artists show up multiple times in my iTunes browser. I have about a dozen Brian Eno’s, for example. Interestingly, one of those Brian Eno’s will be linked to a single track from a given album, another to a few more tracks from that same album, etc. Could someone please tell me how to consolidate these efficiently?
Multiple Instances of Artist Names
Can you show us a screenshot, cannot see why this would happen.
I’m seeing this issue too, fresh install of 3.6.0 and using my license key from a year or so ago.
Got a new macbook pro and started filling iTunes with some music, I’ve now got about 1200 tracks on it so far and decided that I’d use Jaikoz to get the library straight before it got any bigger.
So I installed downloaded a fresh copy of 3.6.0, pulled the ol’ license file out of my gmail and got it set up. I loaded my library and let it run over night.
I’ve been troubleshooting the issues in iTunes for a couple of days now. Initially it was multiple artist entires for the same artist name, same caps, same spaces, etc. So I deleted the tracks out of itunes and tried a fresh import. Now I’m left with some rather confusing results. When I select All generes and goto say… Imogen Heap, I see one artist entry for Imogen Heap in the artist list, with two tracks. If I however do a search for Imogen Heap, I then see four artist entries for Imogen Heap. Why does only search show the extra entries now and simply navigating through the browser only show one entry with two tracks? No idea.
I did have the iTunes option to manage my library enabled, and I also had the Jaikoz option to automatically update the iTunes library option enabled. Maybe these two are somehow stepping over each other’s feet? I don’t know if it’s the id3 tags that are corrupt, or the iTunes xml. I think what I’m going to do at this point is
1)delete my current itunes xml
2)disable itunes managing my library
3)move my itunes media/music folder to the desktop
4)import from that folder, with the ‘copy files’ option enabled.
We’ll see what happens.
Ok, so the reimport didn’t go so well, in fact iTunes crashed halfway through. But it made it through imogen heap, so I can still post a couple of screen shots of what I’m seeing.
EDIT Trying to upload two screen caps but am seeing:

Disorganized: For me, the multiple artist problem turned out to have something to do with the album artist field and the sort fields.
If you select all tracks of Imogen Heap and get info, then make sure that artist field and album artist field are “Imogen Heap” and sort artist and sort album artist fields are “Heap, Imogen,” all tracks should be reunited.
FWIW I also got the same error message when trying to upload a screenshot! There must be a glitch in this discussion board software.
Good luck.
