Manual needs subsection on "selecting tracks to work on" ...

First - its great to see that there IS a manual and its so comprehensive!

So heres a request: because many of the operations require a track or tracks to be selected, its not 100% clear to me when things are selected and when they are not. And theres nowt in the manual (that I can find) which describes HOW a track or tracks can be selected, and how you can see they have been selected (and what might change as a result of them being selected …)

Just needs to be a short subsection- hey! maybe its 2.2 !?!

Manual - section 1.5 “ManualCorrect Tags from MusicBrainz” …
states “for each selected track this finds up to ten potential matches …”

Well every time I try to use this option it processes every track in the edit panel - I cant see how to select a subset of tracks …

(I can assign filters to the edit panel, and then the option only processes filtered tracks but thats not really the point …)

So … is this an issue with the way I select things? or with what the manual says? or with the menu option itself?

cheers - ian

Hi
Generally having made a selection you need to bring up the context menu (right-click) and select the command you want in order to apply it to only the items selected.

When the commands are selected from the main menu they are applied to all visible rows, The exception to this are the commands in the Edit menu: these always work on the selected fields (e.g copy and paste) .

Most people don’t read the manual anyway so the key thing is for it to work in the way that works well and fits in with how other applications on the computer do things, If you think I could improve this to better match other applications please let me know.

It was only after several false starts and delays that I worked out the best way of tagging a whole bunch of stuff …
step 1 is to load everything in then run AutoCorrector from the menu

step 2 is to identify all those tracks which were not identified by MusicBrainz; select them, and with a right mouse click run a manual correct from MusicBrainz and then pick out the best matches
1. The User Interface doesn’t really highlight when you have actually selected a bunch of rows (since Jaikoz uses a spreadsheet type UI, compare Excel UI for row selection v cell selection)

 2. And, IMHO, the Getting Started line in the manual which reads “Once it has completed you can check the results and make any manual changes by editing the data directly” should be expanded to cover “selecting rows” and “edit menu v context menus” …
