Mac OS X iTunes 8 Updating Best Practice

Thank you for the great app!:stuck_out_tongue:

Is there a particular procedure I should follow in order to have Jaikoz update the song titles, artist, album art, lyrics etc. in iTunes whilst assuring the Date Added, Playlists, My Ratings, etc aren’t affected? I also want to end up with organized iTunes Music folder.

My humble guess is as follows. Please review and correct as necessary.

  1. Modify the iTunes Preferences to uncheck the ā€œKeep iTunes Music Organized.ā€
  2. Save Changes in Jaikoz
  3. Recheck the ā€œKeep iTunes Music Organizedā€ and do a File/Library/Consolidate Library (?) (opposed to rebuilding the iTunes Library because I am guessing that would erase all of song My Ratings and playlists.)

I must say that I was overjoyed to find Jaikoz yesterday to fill the void left by obsolescence of iEatBrainz. I used a trial Jaikoz version to update a dozen songs yesterday and it added duplicate songs to the iTunes Library but pointed to the same song file - which is not what I want to happen this time. Despite that, I quickly purchased the full Jaikoz license and I had it search the recommended metadata changes for all 18,194 files over the last 24 hours. All I need to do is Save Changes (!!!) - I just really want to do it right without completely messing up my cherished iTunes Music Library/Collection.

Your advice would be much appreciated! Thanks and keep up the good work!

I’m Running Mac OS X 10.5.5, iTunes 8.0.2, and Jaikoz 2.7.0.

Hmm, for some people the iTunes updates work perfectly other people have had some problems and to be honest I havent got to the bottom of the issues yet.

I assume you are editing Songs that are already in the ITunes database. I would certainly Modify the iTunes Preferences to uncheck the ā€œKeep iTunes Music Organized.ā€ In fact if you are going to be editing files metadata outside of iTunes I would recommend keeping this option purposely disabled

I know you’ve corrected all your files (and the acoustic ids will have been automatically saved so you wont have to do it again) but it might be better to try again against a smaller set OR use the pop window to just save some selected files and check the results before you save all files.

If it still doesnt after unchecking ā€œKeep iTunes Music Organized.ā€ work the best thing to do might be to disable the iTunes integration on the Preferences/Save/iTunes AutoUpdates, save changes, and then just go into iTunes click on the files and select ā€˜Get Info’ to update them with any changes.

It would alos help me if you could email me your iTunes xml file and details of the duplicate files so I can try and work out why it is happening.
