Linux Installation

I am testing Jaikoz to see if it is a good fit for my purposes. However, I am curious, where is the proper installation location? When I ran the installation, it defaulted to:

/home/myusername/Jaikoz

Also, it did not create any launch shortcuts. I am running Gnome 3.14 on Arch Linux.

Should the files be installed to a different location? Thanks for any tips.

That is the default.

I’ll be perfectly honest with you I’m a Java expert who works mainly on Macs and Windows, my experience of Linux is limited.

This in conjunction together with the myriad of different Linux versions with differing procedures for installing software has left me to shy away from trying to improve the Linux installer.

But the goods news is the application itself works perfectly well on linux as long as you ensure you have the official Oracle java installed not the opensource version. (One improvement I am going to make for Linux is bundle the Java installation like I do for Windows and Mac)

Thanks for the reply. What sort of problems may I experience if running the open source version of java? I ask because I did install prior to your reply and I am running the open source version of java. However, I did not notice any ill side effects.

Thanks for the helpful details!

There seems to be an issue opening some mp3s, not clear on exactly what the issue is.
