Lag between SongKong, MusicBrainz and Albunack

I’ve a quick question around what SongKong looks up via MusicBrainz vs Albunack.

Let’s use these releases as an example:

In https://musicbrainz.org/recording/77934e01-dad3-4c3e-89c9-8ad76129a044 Joan Baez is included as an artist credit.

However, when using SongKong to see what it’d pull for the album Joan Baez is not referenced at all.

So at what point and how does SK pull/refresh its MusicBrainz data to pull one of the above (or neither if it can’t identify the specific release)?

Albunack is rebuilt every couple of months from the latest data from MusicBrainz and Discogs. So changes made and releases added after the last rebuild date are not available to the SongKong Fix Songs task.

However, if you need a particular release you can use Match To One Album, enter MB Release ID and force it to retrieve the release from MusicBrainz instead of Albunack.

So if I understand correctly SK never polls MB directly unless you choose to match to one album and select its release MBID?

Pretty much. The Albunack search is not an exact replica of MusicBrainz search, it is optimized to retrieve the album data with significantly less API calls, and the data is enhanced. If we were to go directly to MusicBrainz instead of Albunack then SongKong would be much slower and less accurate.

However, if a search is done on Acoustid and this references an album not yet in Albunack we will retrieve this from MusicBrainz instead.

Even then it will still retrieve from Albunack first and only retrieve from MusicBrainz if not in Albunack unless Force retrieval direct from MusicBrainz is also checked
