I am under the impression that special care is required with SongKong where iTunes libraries are concerned. I want to only affect/correct my meta data. After updating/correcting my metadata I will transfer the files to Melco but, I still want to be able to use this external hard drive on a separate
Mac system with iTunes. So,what specific selections do make to accomplish this?
Keeping iTunes library functional
Im not quite sure what you are referring to when you say special care. But it is safest to not rename filename form metadata if using iTunes to ensure there is no problem with iTunes finding moved/renamed files
Hi Paul, my concern is the potential problem of iTunes finding moved down/renaming files. I want update my Metadata files on my external drive but not impact or change how the drive is seen by iTunes.
I have read the manual but just to be clear, I’m assuming if I select to update my Metadata only and do not elect to make any changes to iTunes, these files will still be recognizable and playable on iTunes? I’m also that after updating my Metadata on this external drive and then copying these files to my Melco player with the new metadata, will I then have the new updated metadata files on my Melco. So, If I take the same updated external drive back to my Mac computer, what Metadata will now show up on iTunes? Will I have two versions of the Metadata, one being, the updated files on the Melco and the other being the old Metadata with the drive on my Mac with iTunes? I’m ok if there is different Metadata on my iTunes and Melco, I just want my iTunes library to still work after updating my external hard drive.
I think you have misunderstood slightly.
If you have Save Changes to ITunes enabled then Songkong will inform iTunes of changes immediately, if you not it will not but. But if these files are part of your iTunes library the iTunes will be affected either way, but hopeful in a positive way with better metadata. But its safest to not rename files from metadata to ensure iTunes doesnt lose track of any files.
So if you want iTunes and Melco updated with better metadata the just go ahead as described.
If you want Melco to be updated with better metadata but for nothing to change in iTunes then yo would need to make a copy of your music files, and then just apply Songkong to the copy intended for use by Melco.
If you only want SongKong to add new data without modifying existig data then you can make use of the Format:Only Modify these fields if Empty option
Hi Paul, I purchased SongKong basic installed on my Mac and opened it from my applications. I tried to update the Metadata but nothing appeared to be working so I stopped the process. On the tool bar where the folder is displayed the version is V4.10.1 and is shows (trial) is that correct? Not wanting to change files names, under the “For Songs already fully matched” I chose (Ignore) in the drop down menu as the only logical choice, was correct? Under File Naming I do see any box selection to prevent renaming. What changes should I select to prevent fixing songs? I only want to change Metadata.
You instructed me “If you only want SongKong to add new data without modifying existig data then you can make use of the Format:Only Modify these fields if Empty option” Did mean, add new Metadata without modifying? Not sure if this is a good option with the potential inconsistencies disclaimer and all genre selections.

No that means you have not installed license, so no changes will actually be made, you should have received a license by email.

No need to change that, that option is about rematching already matched files. You just need to ensure the option below it called Rename Filenames from Metadata is set to No as it is by default.

See option above
When you say fixing songs you mean renaming songs, that will not happen as long as option above is set to no. When i say fixing songs I mean fixing the metadata
I agree, but some customers have manually entered metadata and don’t want it modified so I was giving you the option.
Actually this implies no songs were found to fix under /Volumes/G-SAFE, does this drive actually contain normal audio files or is some kind of backup drive ?
This is my external drive path where only music file exist.
If it still isnt finding anything can you run Help:Create Support Files please.
Bump, is there still an issue ?
