Jriver Users Who Use Jaikoz I Need Your Help! Anyone who may know some of these answrs?

Hi Jriver Users.
Im in the process of starting to tag my music collection. Ive used jriver for years. and to be honest my tags are a complete disaster!

first off, may i ask what settings you all are using in your jaikoz preferences? (maybe screen shots if easier)

My concerns i have my music media on 3 seperate drives and there is NO SET structure as of yet.

In jriver as you know Artist doesnt work for having an multiple artists.
One must make there own artistS field by doing so you could have ozzy osbourne and lita ford’s song changes show up when you chose lita ford or ozzy osbourne.
How do i set up jaikoz to tag my music like this?

how are you guys doing Feat. via artistS?

same goes for genres, one cannot have multiple genres, so in jriver we setup keywords, how do i tell jaikoz to save all tags to keywords instead of genre?

Coverarts - all my folders in all drives i use folder.jpg in the folder for my cover arts, how can i use jaikoz to make sure the cover arts are correct, and all good quality, and same size?

being ive used jriver for along time now, how can MAKE SURE jaikoz doesnt NOT remove my 5 star ratings?

After tagging all my files with jaikoz, will my playulist still work? if not how do you suggest i make sure my playlists will not change?

last BUT NOT LEAST… how do you guys suggest i set up jaikoz to save my files? so that jaikoz remakes my folder structures\filenames all be the same, And then once done how do i make this same rule within jriver…
Example, Artists\Album\then track name would be in there. (how should i have jaikoz make my track names (filenames) 01.ozzy osbourne - changes. or just ozzy osbourne - changes, or just changes?

Thanks Guys i’m excited to get going on this but ive put it off for so long in fear of the huge job, and it taking forever. I’m really hoping Jaikoz can help me get some sort of structure and neat looking Library going! and once done making it easier to keep up with proper tags.

Thank You, I will await any replies, before i dig into jaikoz and accidently screw up my library worse then what it is.

ok how bout anyone?
I did purchase this software, but im not about to go wrecking my library worse then it is until i understand these answers.

Thank You.

I don’t use jriver myself, so not sure how to optimize for that. I typically will use media monkey on my own machine and on other machines, like ones at work, i typically will use the default windows media player.

That being said, this is how I have mine setup.

I have a lot of music so I break my down into alphabet as windows seems to get bogged down if it tries to list 10,000 folders at once. So artist that start with the letter A are in my A folder, artists that start with the letter B are in my B folder, etc. Then under each artist I have separate folders for each of their albums, and in the albums folders I list their songs that match the album.

So it looks something like this Music\ac-dc\Listen Now High Voltage\

inside that folder has all the mp3s for the album Listen Now! \tHigh Voltage.

Various Artists I have in their own folder, call Various, so I have 26 folders, which are the alpha ones A - Z, another for numbers, and the Various one for Various Artists.

Not sure how to go about saving the ratings. I don’t like extra junk in my song tags, so the first thing I always do is wipe out anything that is not artist, album, title, year, album artist.

Far as cover art, you can always set the default size in jaikoz, then clear out all the art from your tags and tell jaikoz to local correct from folder. That will at least only grab the larger sized files. A quick glance afterwards would show which albums couldn’t find good quality artwork.

Most playlists just call the song by file name and location. So if you don’t move your files, and don’t change the file names. Then they should still work. Though it sounds like you want to move your files and rename them to better organize everything. In which case you will probably have to update your playlists manually to reflect those changes.

Various artists tags, I have the artist name in the artist field, then usually Various Artists in the Album Artist field. Ft artist I haven’t really done much with. I typically just keep mine in the song name field to match what is on the back of the physical album so Some Song ft Some Artist.

Jaikoz does support multiple genres. You could replace the word genres for keywords if you like as they are somewhat interchangeable with ID3.24. As long as jriver fully supports ID3.24 you shouldn’t have a problem. If they put the multiple genres or keywords into somewhere that is outside of the ID3.24 spec, then you probably want to let them know and ask them to update their software.

For moving and renaming files I use media monkey. I just like their interface and options better, sorry jaikoz. Though it appears you can do most of the basic stuff in jaikoz as well.

Not sure about any easy way to tag all your files. Even with jaikoz auto tag features, I will typically go over and verify each one by hand afterwards. Something that has taken me bout 2 years to get all cleaned up to the point where I like it.

Jaikoz doesnt have any special options for integrating with JRiver, although this has been requested before and may happen. So editing with Jaikoz is like editing with any application other than JRiver really. Not many applications do support multiple artists in the artist field and currently neither does Musicbrainz or Jaikoz so if you have a song by 'Johnny Cash & June Carter" the artist field will just contain “Johnny Cash & June Carter”. If you want to add to JRivers Artists field “Johnny Cash” and then “June Carter” as seperate artists you would have to do this yourself within JRiver.

However Musicbrainz NGS which is just round the corner would store the artists for this song as two artists, and I expect to add some options to Jaikoz to take advantage of this.

Jaikoz already supports storing multiple genres, but these are storedin the genre field not the custom JRiver Genres field, so you’d have to copy over within JRiver itself, unless it is scriptable ?

Featured Artists are normally held as part of the song title in Musicbrainz, http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Featuring_Artist_Style and currently Jaikoz does nothing special with them.

Use Local Artwork Correct to load the artwork into the files themselves, taking advantage of the options grengeek ahas explained, this is a much better solution then storing the artwork seperately

Are JRivers ratings stored in the files themeselves (in which case visible within Jaikoz in the Ratings column) or does JRiver use an internal database. If using an internal database Jaikoz does not touch that , I think the only way you would lose ratings in that case would be if you used Jaikoz to rename/move files so I would be tempted to do file moving within JRiver.

Yes, as long as you dont move or rename the file themselves, Jaikoz is not a plylist editor tool.

Just try Jaikoz out on a few hundred files so you understand how its works and how it effects JRiver before you do anything more drastic.

thanks for replies guys.

Lots of great info, and my confidence level is increasing.

I would be very suprised (and disappointed) if it wasnt released within 2 months) but I see no reason to wait, you should make a start and see how Jaikoz works for you as is. Also if you find problems the earlier you report them the earlier they will be resolved.

Within Windows Explorer ? If so that indicates they are stored in the file itself which is a good thing. So you can see and edit the ratings within Jaikoz itself, you might want to look at Preferences/Save/Compatability/Upload and Save Ratings to find which mapping is best for JRiver. This is necessary because the mp3 rating field is interpreted differently by different software, for example although it can store a value from 1-255 iTunes just uses 100 to signify 5 stars.
