iTunes rescan?

I’m a new user (purchased yesterday and already just about have another friend convinced to buy) and already have used Jaikoz on the dreaded Unknown Artist Unknown Album folder and had it churn through 940 songs in relative little time. Good job! I was going to go crazy having to clean up that folder I am sure. Computers are supposed to serve us, and yet I seem to spend too much time attending to their little needs…

Anyway, now that i’ve got these files with their shiny new tags, I’d really like to see the changes reflected in iTunes.

Without listening to everything or reimporting, what options do I have?

You can use GetInfo on a track to see changes reflected, but if you have changed many files the best thing to do is reimport them into iTunes. There may be a better way, Jaikoz is not tied to iTunes and I’m not an iTunes expert - does anybody know a better solution (may be different for OSX and Windows) ?

But I am going to look at getting Jaikoz to update iTunes automatically, as I appreciate that many Jaikoz users use iTunes.

What I have done is

  1. Find all the unknown songs and make a playlist.

  2. copy (drag and drop) the songs from the playlist to a directory. These songs can be used by jaikoz to fix up.

  3. in the playlist modify the Disk # to 999.

  4. delete the playlist

  5. In the Music folder, sort on Disk # so that all the 999 are together

  6. Delete all the files with Disk # 999

  7. Add the new songs created in 2 back into iTunes.

I use a Mac but it should be the same on a Win.

I’ve run into this problem as well.

Strangely enough, just navigating to my iTunes music folder, then dragging and dropping that folder into my iTunes library completely refreshed all of my files. I suppose using the “add to library” command in the file menu would work also but I haven’t tried that way.

I was worried that this would just re-import all of my files but it worked
