Hi! Say i have edited some MP3 files with Jaikoz, editing their tags because they were in a wrong encoding. After saving and checked that the iTunes updating was checked, i open iTunes and see that the files are unchanged. However, if i right-click and go to Get Info, then the program will get the new information and update the entry in the Library. Isn’t Jaikoz supposed to do this? I’m a bit confused. Now using iTunes 7.6 and Mac OS X 10.5.2. Restarting iTunes doesn’t seem to solve this.

here is how I see what is going on:
Jaikoz makes changes to the MP3 file. If you look at the iTunes listing after saving Jaikoz edits, the display isn’t (immediately?) updated. I have found that any action you take in iTunes (playing the file, calling up album art) causes iTunes to “look” at the MP3 file and update the display. I think we’re both talking about the same phenomenon.
I used to update the iTunes library file simply by scrolling through song listings with the album art box open. I think Jaikoz (now) makes changes to the iTunes library file when saving edits. I’m not sure how Jaikoz’ new updating feature interacts with and /or complicates iTunes handling of MP3 edits.
Hi mccammer! i tried everything i could think of, even deleting the files from the itunes library and reimport them. I have made some kind of fotolog with the steps i followed. Maybe there must be some bug in the itunes mp3 handling, because the file’s tags were showing up correctly in the Finder Get Info window.
I have deleted the mp3 files, ripped them again, and it’s showing fine. I’ll post here any further problems…

Myabe ‘immediately is the issue’ Jaikoz saves all the files that you specify THEN in a seperate thread it creates the iTunes playlist with the modified songs, the songs wont be updated until jaikoz has finished creating the playlist - you can see wht it is doing by switching to the console tab. It is done this way you to continue working in Jaikoz without waiting for iTunes. This is especially important if you are actively using iTunes in parallel with Jaikoz, for example if you start editing the info in a song in iTunes that will block Jaikoz from creating the playlist.
Without the Jaikoz update code I found that iTunes would ONLY update info if you actually selected the files and selected ‘Get Info’, nothing else would be enough.
Of course when we say iTunes - its behaviour might differ between versions, and between the OSX and windows versions.

There’s another file which was not correctly imported into iTunes (that’s why those tori amos songs were not showing up correctly). Look: this is the same file, in the iTunes and on the Finder’s get info window:
This may be a file bug or a iTunes bug?
I am using OS X 10.5.2 with the latest iTunes, v7.6. Any guess?
Having looked at the test file it apears to be a bug in iTunes
If you open the file in Jaikoz, select the ID3Edit tab, and scroll over to the Not Supported column at the far right, You’ll see there are a number of PRIV (private) fields. These all happen to be at the start of the file (You can see this using a hex editor) and it looks like iTunes just gives up when it encounters one of these and doesnt go any further.
To fix , right click and select delete on the Unsupported field, (you’ll lose that info but you wont want it anyway it was just used by Windows Media Player) and save.
In iTunes do get Info on the file and you should should now now see the remaining data ok.
