I check the “is compilation” box on albums that have various artists.
I leave it blank if the artist is the same for all the songs.
Is that what it is used for.
Can you tell me what other purposes it has, if any?

Is compilation question.
Various players may display data differently based on that field, but its rather confusing because some only use it to apply to a Various Artist compilation, whereas more correctly it can also be used for a Single artist compilation (such as a ‘Best of’)
