Incorrect Acoustic ID, Discogs 404?

I’ve searched and searched through the forum and apparently this is supposed to be impossible. So please help me figure out what’s going on.

Boring story short: The external hard drive that I stored my iTunes library on died, and there was content I’d purchased on my iPhone that was synced there but not backed up elsewhere. Not willing to re-download, re-rip and/or repurchase my songs I logged into the iPhone with SSH and copied the media library wholesale. However I now have a number of files with names like HHGL.mp3 and only the artist in the meta-data.

As a test I tried fixing one of them with Jaikoz (after first updating to the newest version), and while it was running the auto-correct the Acoustic ID line the status window showed: HHGL.mp3

I checked the console log, and below is the record of my several attempts (sorry for the text dump, but I’m not about to guess at what is and isn’t relevant). You’ll notice there’s a 404 error for Discogs on several lines.

Hi, it should be possible to fix many of your songs, just not this one.

Jaikoz has looked for an acoustic id for this song but failed to find one in the database, and because there is not one and there is no metadata is unable to find a match in Musicbrainz or Discogs.

But if you run your whole folder against Jaikoz I think you’ll find many can be identified.

I’ll give it a shot, but the song does have a listing in the Musicbrainz DB:

I had thought that Jaikoz scanned each song to generate an ID and looked that up. I don’t mean that as a complaint, just a point of confusion.

Let me explain, there are two independent databases the Musicbrainz Database keyed by trackid, and the AmpliFIND Database keyed by Puid. When you generate an acoustic fingerprint for a song it sent to the AmpliFIND database whereby it is either recognised and Puid is returned, or it is unknown and a new puid is generated. But the new puid is not generated immediately and you have to recheck the next day to receive it , and this is the case for your song.

Then Jaikoz can search the Musicbrainz db by Puid, but for a particular Puid to be linked to a track somebody needs to have made that connection (Possibly by using the Submit Musicbrainz/PUID pair task in Jaikoz). Obviously because your puid has just been created no such link will exist, and even if there already existed a Puid for yout song it is not guaranteed to have been linked to the song in Musicbrainz.

Jaikoz can also search for Musicbrainz by metadata, but because your song only contains the artistname there is not enough information for the match

Try running Jaikoz over a bigger set of songs and see how you get on
