How to set compilation flag for a group of songs

I just started using the trial of Jaikoz Audio Tagger, and generally I like it (coming from MP3Tag for the PC). But I can’t figure out how to set certain tags for a group of songs.

For instance, how can I set the compilation flag (Is Compilation in Info window) for every song that I select. It seems when I select a group of songs, only the last one is affected when I tick the Is Compilation option.

I’m new at this, and trying to understand how to use JAT, and of course, if it’s worth $35 to me.

Thanks.

When manually editing with Jaikoz the most efficient way to edit is within the edit view itself, use it much like a spreadsheet whereas the detail tab at the bottom only shows the last selected song NOT all selected songs.

So within the spreadsheet use can use Set Value to set all selected fields to one value that you type (for is compilation enter ‘true’ or ‘false’). Alternatively you could Copy one is compilation field and Paste the value into the other fields.

Ah, thanks. Got it. I was just looking at the bottom.

But now I have a problem. I revealed the Is Compilation column, which contains a check box. However, I can’t select all the cells of this column at once. When I click on the top column, it checks the box and highlights the field. Then, when I scroll to the bottom of the list and alt+shift+click on the last entry, I would expect all the column to be highlighted. But it’s not. It only highlights the last-clicked entry.

i.e. - This list selecting functionality doesn’t operate like a Mac where you can click, then alt+shift+click to highlight everything in between. Maybe it’s the check box?

The click, then alt+shift+click works in the Various Artists columns and the Genre columns, but not in the Is Compilation column.

Please advise how I can easily select all the cells under Is Compilation?

And is there an easier way to select every cell in a column, other that click, scroll to bottom, alt+shift+click? Highlighting an entire column in one click would be a great timesaver (like in Excel).

Nevermind. I see that you need to click on the column heading to paste every cell in the column with your value.

But correct me if I’m wrong - you can’t select a group of cells when they have tick-mark boxes in them.

@ScuseMe,
the easiest way to check or uncheck the whole Is Compilation column is to right click in the column header of Is Compilation and in the context menu use Set Value with true to check all column-fields or false to uncheck.

And like you did with alt+shift+click, it works for me with shift+click instead of alt+shift+click. (Windows)

Thanks Alfg,

I didn’t think to click on the column header and paste from there. Makes it a lot easier than manually setting “Is Compilation” for 748 tracks! Luckily I discovered this “trick” before going too far into the list.

Shift+Click does not seem to work on OS X. When I click on the IsCompilation flag, the selection does not change to this cell (it does toggle the flag’s value). When I shift+click, the selection does not update either.

I can select a flag by using the arrow keys to move the selection into that column, and I can select a number of cells with shift+arrow-down. But it would be nice if shift+click worked.

I agree. When I found out that I couldn’t shift-click to select a range of cells, I right-clicked on the “Is Compilation” heading, and used Set Value = True to change the whole column (although I had to juggle tracks around since I was setting everything listed to Is Compilation).

Right a bug on the IsCompilation field only, added to buglist

This bug is still around. Having to manually click each checkbox in a subset of a long list is not fun. Would be nice if it was possible to select a range from the “Is Compilation” row.

Well as i remember, in a previous version of jaikoz it was possible to copy the “is compilation” field (marked or not) and to paste it in to every selected “is compilation” field at once

Yes you can still do that Tagger Joe

hmm, i cannot even select more than one line in “is comilation” row…

and therefor i cannot paste to more than one…

i think it is not possible since the version 3

have 3.11.1

ah, I forgot there is an OSX problem due to a bug in the underlying GUI library although I have a messy workaround for you that might be useful.

Set one compilation field to desired value, right click and select copy.
Position an empty column next to the is Compilation
Select fields in both columns
Right Click, Paste
Select fields in previously empty column
Right Click, Delete

If you are changing the compilation field alot this should be quicker.
