i am new here. i had it with i tunes and came up with Media monkey. i read that the best way to start was import your music into media monkey, then use Jaikoz to do a second level clean up. It looks like Jaikoz is a player as well and i am asking how does it compares to media monkey as a player. Also i have tested a few files and cleaned with Jaikoz and i see all the new corrections which i save but this does not change my original data base. Other then your opinion i am asking if someone can advise the best way to get started thanks larry
how to get started
A few misconceptions here:
-
Jaikoz isn’t a player, you can select songs and send to your preferred music player to play, but it isn’t a player itself.
-
Just loading songs into MediaMonkey isn’t going to help, and there aren’t any Media Monkey plugs that are going to match anything as well as Jaikoz so that stage is waste of time.
-
When you correct songs in Jaikoz nothing is actually changed in the file itself until you save changes. If you have saved changes and things have not changed in your database that is probably because the database has to be reloaded, it depends what you mean by database. You can check Jaikoz has actually changed the files by looking at the files in WIndows Explorer.
Hopefully this is enough to get you started.
Thanks for the reply,I have played with this for a few hours and taken several looks at the on line support manual
What i mean by Data Base is, i have all my music collection stored on a G drive on my computer. Some albums are well ordered and others have the track number artist and song name all contained within the name field. i open Jaikoz and load the file from G drive i run the auto correct feature and the result is all the information, track number artist and song name are now in the correct column in the Jaikoz screen. i then then click the save changes made to your song button on the toolbar and exit Jaikoz, i go to explorer G drive and the information … track number artist and song name is still lumped together in the name field. I saw your reload comment in your first reply so i tried one more test with one albumn with the same result all the information is still lumped together in one column.
i can see that Jaikoz is a very sophisticated program and more than i will ever use i am sure. i just want to correct my music files so i can load them into media monkey and never have to look at i tunes again thanks larry
I see, by default Jaikoz fixes the metadata but doesn’t change the filename to reflect the metadata this is because it can be confusing for users if files are renamed or moved.
But you can rename folders/Files easily in Jaikoz, just run Action:File and Folder Correct:Correct Filename from Metadata/Correct Subfolders from Metadata before saving changes.
You can change the filename mask used in Preferences:File and Folder Correct
I typically will use jaikoz to fix all tags for the majority of my music. I use media monkey as my player as well as to clean up songs that are not in musicbrainz or discogs as it can fix off amazon. I also use it to add lyrics to the songs. So jaikoz does 90% of the work and media monkey fills in the blanks and acts as the player.
yikes…i followed the instructions. All my music files were on F. nicely ordered by artist and album the only problem was on some albums a lot of information was lumped into the name field … now Jaikoz has totally destroyed by F drive information everything is all over the place and it has even combined songs like this
03. Bachman - BTO’s Greatest (Remastered) - 03 - Turner Overdrive Hey You
where a song was totally correct it now looks like this
(14)
that is it just 14
years of work has been wiped out… so I no longer want to get started with Jaikoz . Can anyone out there tell me if there is a company or person who might be able to fix my music file thanks larry
Hmm so you renamed all the files and then just saved them without checking the changes, the whole point of Jaikoz not saving changes automatically is so you can check the changes before committing them.
However I’m sure we can repair the situation, but the first step is for you to use Advanced:Create Support Files to email me your support files so I can get a better understanding of how your music is organized and what has happened.
I thought all was lost. I can not tell you how much I appreciate the help larry
ps I emailed the file to the support address
Okay, please be patience and give me a couple of days as I have some friends staying over for a couple of days.
Thanks and whenever you get a chance is just fine. I also have team viewer and joinme if you need to look at the original files larry
So the basic problem was that Correct Subfolder/Filename from Metadata was applied to all files, but only some files were actually matched to Musicbrainz/Discogs. Of the files that were not matched some of them had bad data such as (01) or (02) in the artist field (which is what the first subfolder is named by) and this is where the bad filenames have come from.
This highlights two improvements I would like to make in Jaikoz:
Add a Correct Filename from Metadata (if matched to Musicbrainz) action (and autocorrecter task) so that only matched files are renamed http://jthink.net:8081/browse/JAIKOZ-766
If a song has no data, then we generally accept an Acoustid match, however if the song already has some data we expect the metadata to match to a degree. But this means that if the song has bad data we probably wont accept match, trouble is how can we tell good from bad metadata, and if we just ignore we may then allow match to incorrect song (as some acoutids can match multiple completely different songs)
